Lovely location. Friendly and helpful staff. Huge room with fabulous views. Excellent restaurant and delicious dinner. Included breakfast was superb.
Nothing!
camera molto ampia
colazione abbondante e con molta scelta
bagno un po' vecchio
Good value for money, and great breakfast included.
Nothing
Great location for ferry to Orkney. Good parking. Staff friendly & helpful.
Hotel generally tired. Entrances dirty, flower beds unkempt, litter everywhere.
We had room 24, a separate bit of the hotel by the lodges. Coach parties seemed to be accommodated in the main hotel. We were downstairs & had noise from the upstairs rooms, ? like ours, are they uncarpeted? The bed was next to the road & pavement, so we had to keep the curtains drawn. A net curtain or window frosting would have helped with privacy.
The room was large, but well worn & stale smelling, with smoking going on outside our door & drifting in.
The breakfast experience was not good. We had an early ferry to catch, so went to eat at 07.00, opening time. A large coach party was queuing before us & demolished the food put out. So many people, limited food supplies. Rolls, croissants, eggs, bacon etc gone before we got there.
There were no hot plates for hot food & an urn supplied water for tea & instant coffee, which isn't what you would expect in a hotel.
The toaster, hot drink facilities & food on one table caused chaos, as the coach party guests crowded everyone else out, letting their friends push in etc. We had to wait while they made their toast & drinks before we could get our hot food, what little was left.
We had just 30 minutes to have breakfast. Not a good experience.
Ideal venue for overnight stay whilst completing the NC500 route.
Room allocated for 3 persons had 2 beds and one sofa bed that had to be made up yourself on arrival. The sofa bed proved to be very uncomfortable (saggy mattress) so at least one person had a very poor sleep. No evening meal was available due to a large wedding party at the hotel. This was not relayed to us until arrival and we had to find an alternative venue in Thurso for a meal. Breakfast could have been better. A disappointing stay.
Room was squalid , dirty ,cold , no heating in the bathroom and wall panel radiator was extremly slow , no real facilities, TV didnt work no cups or spoons , bathroom was atrocious. Main hotel was grimy . Food was ok . It was more like a locals pub. Breakfast was very disorganised and had to wait even though it was a buffet type. I couldnt wait to get out.
Everything
Nothing
Poorly maintained. Untidy very shabby.
Good location
The room wasn't cleaned during our stay.
The water taps were difficult to turn off.
Having to ask for tea, coffee etc at the reception
Friendly staff
On opening door to the chalet their was a distinctive damp musty smell even though the window was open you could smell it when you first walked in. Never went away and by the end of the 5 days our clothes that were hanging up stank of damp we couldn’t wear them
We booked a double bed and it was twin beds ..
Went to the reception and the lady was very kind and said that there would be a double room available next day if we wanted to move to it, but we had unpacked some of our things . I didn’t want to put it all back again. There was no room for clothes a small half wardrobe couldn’t really hang a dressing . 4 coat hangers for two people we were staying 5 days so needed more than 4 Good job I always bring some of my own anyway . Had to put T-shirts jeans ect on the bottom of the wardrobe ..no drawers to put any underwear into not even glasses in the bathroom for washing your teeth. Two very small odd cups not even the same for cuppa more like small coffee cup as we were going to be here for 5 days we bought 2 cups . Never had towels change or cleaned for all 5 days
Bathroom but very dated bit black round sealant . We found some little crawly beasts in bathroom not good Towels lovely and soft though so bonus .
Room had some marks on walls needed a bit of paint
We booked this hotel as my wife has a mobility problem and thought it was good as it had a bar and food which ment we could have a drink at night to relax
On the Friday the whole hotel was closed couldn’t get in as it was Assistant general managers wedding ( so we so paying residents couldn’t even go for a drink or meal which was not great . Especially as we picked it for the reason stated
Now for positives
Beds were comfortable
Very dog friendly
Staff in all area were fantastic nothing was to much bother for them so friendly can’t fault them at all
We asked for extra pillows and they obliged very quickly
Such a shame this happened as it’s in a nice location with great views and walks near by ..
Lage
Location
Dirty rooms
Dirty towels
Poor food .
Very poor breakfast.no bread for toast and all food was undercooked , No tea or coffee in the hotel as the water was cold for the hot water tank .
Dirty plates in the hotel .
This is a below basic hotel
Near the boat, close to Thurso centre
The room walls and ceiling were dirty, there was a handprint clearly to see in the wall. There was no much pressure to the shower, the bathroom door never opened fully as kept banging on the toilet. Only one of the lights worked, one was blown. The bed was a solid brick. And the window was a pain to shut again once opened.
Perfect location and good price
Size of rooms
Food was very poor
Location to the ferry
Dog friendly, I personally don’t like dogs in eating areas a public areas . If it was just the chalets it would be fine .
