I loved the staff at this property. From the moment we arrived they made me and Benjamin feel welcomed. They helped me booking activities, the atmosphere at the hostel was fun and friendly. The location was great, just a few minutes' walk to the center of town, and short Ubers to the main attractions.

Huge room with really awesome outdoor hang out spots to watch the animals! Staff was also super friendly, and the restaurant had amazing views of the volcano :)

Benjamin and I LOVED everything about this property!!! I wouldn't even know where to start... The hotel is gorgeous, you feel like you are surrounded by nature in this magical peaceful place, yet you are also walking distance to the center of town and just a short drive from the main attractions. The staff is extremely nice, you can tell they run this place with love, and they genuinely care about every single guest. Norman was a wise, humble, amazing human that made our stay here even more amazing!!

Hermoso lugar, la habitación de muy buen tamaño. Abres la puerta y está la selva. Desde el comedor hay una vista espectacular del volcán, fue un lujo desayunar frente a él. El desayuno muy rico. Muy limpio todo, Me ayudaron muy amablemente con todas mis reservaciones de Tours y transporte. Está a muy corta distancia del centro, y se me hizo muy práctico. Tomé un tour para ver Perezosos y demás fauna y era en la misma Colonia. Hay mucha fauna cerca, increíble que se conviva tan de cerca con diferentes especies. También hay varios animalitos que van a comer al hotel, y los puedes ver a una distancia muy cercana. Hay alberca, se veía excelente, pero no me dio tiempo de usarla.

An amazing location, delicious breakfasts, views of the volcano from your breakfast table and lots of help arranging tours! This is a very affordable, clean, safe place to use as a base to explore the Fortuna area! Make no mistake - it isn't fancy. But they have birds and wild boars and lizards right on the property. We were out adventuring each day and it was lovely to come back to air-conditioned rooms, a kitchenette for a snack and a comfy bed!

Very clean and excellent staff has the best views

Location was good, a few minutes walk to town & restaurants yet set in a private position looking out to the volcano. Breakfast was nice, fruit eggs or pancakes. Great staff.

Mega Frühstück, mega Aussicht

I absolutely loved my three nights here at the end of May. My only fault is that the beds are hard but overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Coffee maker with local coffee and fridge in the room. I had a room in the main building so their personal rain forest was outside my door. I would sit and eat my breakfast outside my room while watching the antics of various birds. They also have a natural pond habitat where you can see poison dart frogs, agouti, turtles, ducks, hummingbirds, herons and various others. Of all of the hotels that I have stayed over the years, Xilopalo will forever be one of my favorite. And they also offer tours through various tour companies. And of course, the incomparable Armando’s sloth tour. And the restaurant has excellent food at excellent prices. The views from the restaurant are spectacular. I caught the attached on my first night. Town center is a 6 minute walk. I could go on and on…but I save the best for last…the staff. Courteous, welcoming and patient. What a treat!!!!
