The location
They might be unhappy with the front desk; he can be very disrespectful, though not all of them. The person who gave me the key to my room should consider addressing his attitude with the company. His behavior has been very poor, especially for a hotel like Marriott. This is my second trip, and despite his attitude, I remain positive and hopeful for a better experience.
The pool is one of the best for families. Angelina (the pool boss) keeps everyone safe and happy (she has a great staff, too) and is always kind and accommodating. We spend time in VA Beach twice a year and Angelina always remembers us and makes us feel at home!!!
The pool area
I booked for an oceanview room months ago and they told me they did not have any available. They gave me a cheaper room with no view and did not give me any money back.
A resort definitely for families. My niece booked a handicap room for my 80 year old sister and me. The room had a tub, not walk in shower! With great difficulty we got her in and out. The dry tub surface also was VERY slippery! That room did not have a balcony and my sister wanted to enjoy an ocean view. The resort fee covers a lot but most of it is family/kid oriented and which we did not use. We asked for and got a room change but the room wasn't much better but at least it had a tiny balcony. All the staff are pleasant and professional. Our evening meal in the downstairs restaurant was nice and they comped our desserts since some menu items were unavailable. Unhappily we will not choose to stay again because of the dangerous tubs--in both rooms even dry--- were slick surface, also the fact that a handicap room had a tub instead of a walk in shower, and the resort fees were exorbitant for our needs. I know most upscale properties don't have microwaves, but people do stay for a week or more to heat up things. Not a good value at all for us and I know my sister was very disappointed.
The resort itself is beautiful.. as far as the front desk they do need some work. They do need to explain what the resort has to offer or atleast the basics. They do check you in and move along. I had to learn a lot the just but trial and error. Orion was amazing and the hosts and staff did a great job. The pool was nice but I could have been informed I couldn't go to the pool next door. Wasn't clear I couldn't be there until I was kick out. I think just for the cost it would be a lot better. The resort is really nice and I love the look. So I don't want to take away front that.. oh before I forget getting to the front door was the worse with park cars just blocking to get in. They need a better check in system.
The aesthetic.
The staff was not helpful for customer service oriented. They nickel and dimmed for every single thing in the hotel and in the room. It’s not worth the cost. You better off actually going out the country or to another state.
Staff and hotel was beyond amazing.
The hotel itself is very nice, clean, and well maintained, but unfortunately the front desk experience really lacked the level of hospitality I would expect from a four-star hotel.
When I checked in, the front desk associate took my credit card, handed me the keys, and that was essentially it. There was no welcome or explanation of the hotel: no information about breakfast, the pools, activities, or even how parking worked. Because parking wasn't explained, I actually had to come back later that day to change my parking pass.
The service at checkout wasn't much better. While I was waiting, a staff member allowed another couple to cut in front of me rather than acknowledging that I had been waiting. When it was finally my turn, the associate simply took my keys without asking how my stay was or even saying thank you.
I do want to recognize Anthony at the front desk, who was friendly and helpful and stood out positively during our stay.
Overall, we enjoyed the property itself, but the front desk team could use significantly more training around hospitality and the guest experience. At a hotel of this caliber, guests should feel welcomed and taken care of from check-in through checkout, and unfortunately that was missing from our stay.
Very clean. A lot of restaurants. Area was well kept. Upscale!
