It worked for us.
Pros:

Used the adjoining restaurant for breakfast and two dinners. The food was excellent. Room was quiet, comfy and clean. But cold for our first night. It was fixed for the second night. Paid on-site parking but probably could have parked on the street. 24 hr reception was great as we checked in at around 3am.

Cons:

I really dislike the electronic pads some hotels now use for check-in.

Excellent hotel, would stay again
Pros:

Location was great as we were traveling without a car. Arrived by bus from Kaikōura; took a brief Uber to hotel. Easy access to hop on hop off.
