Clean, beautiful view: bed was comfortable.
Big room, comfortable bed, contemporary furniture + fittings, easy location
Staff were lovely, we had an issue with TV and phone didn't work, but staff were very helpful and offered to move us, but we were fine with telly not working for a couple of nights, and they gave us 2 drinks vouchers which we enjoyed 😀. Included breakfast buffet was very good too, with many good food options.
Pretty well everything was great. Reception staff could not have been more helpful. And the rails in the bathroom were a great help. Plenty of parking, at reasonable price.
No microwave to heat up snacks, bui, we were aware of that when we booked.

Credit where it’s due: once we raised our concerns, the hotel did make a genuine effort to improve our stay.
We were moved to a room on a higher floor which was significantly cleaner, noticeably more comfortable and generally much closer to what we expected from a Mercure property. The air-conditioning was also adjusted from downstairs, which finally allowed the room to reach something resembling a habitable temperature rather than a lightly furnished sauna.
The replacement room even had robes and slippers, which was an interesting discovery considering our original room apparently belonged to a different tier of civilisation.
We were initially concerned about being placed beside the lifts, but surprisingly we could barely hear them, so that turned out to be absolutely fine.
The complimentary bottle of wine acknowledging our wedding anniversary was also a thoughtful touch and genuinely appreciated.
Most importantly, the hotel did respond to our complaints rather than simply shrugging and hoping we evaporated from heat exhaustion. The recovery was good.
Unfortunately, the recovery was necessary because the original room was nowhere near the standard we expected.
The glass was covered in fingerprints and smears, the walls had obvious marks and scuffs, and the refrigerator was unplugged when we arrived. Apparently refrigeration is now an interactive guest experience where you activate the appliance yourself.
The biggest problem, however, was the temperature.
The room was absolutely stifling when we arrived and took roughly four hours to become remotely comfortable. The entire front of the room was exposed to the sun and there was so much radiant heat coming through the glass that you could physically feel it standing several feet away.
The air-conditioning technically produced airflow, in much the same way someone gently breathing across the room would technically constitute ventilation.
Check-in was also fairly minimalist. We were essentially told where to park and sent on our merry way. Efficient, certainly. Welcoming might be stretching the definition.
After being moved, the second room was thankfully much better, although the safe was locked and unusable. As it was Sunday and maintenance was unavailable, there was nothing that could be done. It wasn’t a major issue, but at that stage it did feel like the hotel was committed to providing us with at least one malfunctioning appliance per room.
The frustrating thing is that the second room demonstrated that this hotel can actually provide a good room. It was cleaner, cooler, better presented and far more comfortable.
So the real question is why the first room was considered acceptable to give to a paying guest in the first place.
Overall: the staff deserve credit for recovering the situation, and our stay improved considerably after we complained. But guests shouldn’t need to complain, relocate rooms and have the air-conditioning specially overridden simply to receive the basic standard they paid for.
Mercure eventually got there.
