Friendly, close to stadium n food places, staff was awesome, the front desk young lady she greeted me on my arrival at 12:20 Friday n on check out at 11 on Saturday she was warm inviting and always had a smile..
It was very clean and the double room was a nice size!
I prefer a hotel with a Kcup coffee pot in the room and I would like a microwave in the room. Coffee in the lobby is always nice.
Location and nice big room
No hot water, we reported it. Only strayed one night so had cold showers.
While the location of this hotel was quite convenient in relation to Daikin Park, restaurants, and parking, the hotel itself has its faults.
The breakfast was lacking. Food often wasn't replenished and wait times weren't ideal. Juice/milk was near the food. Coffee was on a counter away in between dining areas, and the water (what I wanted) wasn't discovered until day 2, as it was tucked away on the side of a cafe section of the front desk. Unsure how anyone could find it unless they were told where it was. Inefficient setup.
There were room issues with AC not functioning, and having to be moved at 10pm due to the Houston Heat/Humidity. I understand that it can happen anywhere.
The front desk staff has the biggest opportunity for improvement. They were of little knowledge of the surrounding area and two people couldnt answer the question "where can I get a burger and a beer?". In a downtown area, a little insight goes a long way when you work in hospitality. (Moonshiners was found a few blocks away and it was fantastic)
I discovered the fitness center was closed one my first morning and the front desk person barely apologized. They then said "possibly" an LA Fitness was nearby (I'm not a member, that doesn't help me as I stand here in my workout clothes). So to this day, im not sure why you wouldn't look into options or if there aren't any, just tell me.
When we were moved to the other room I had suspicion that it didn't go smooth. I had charges pending on my card, which were outside of the normal deposits I see when booking the room on points. I asked the desk the next morning to see if this was normal, and they claimed it was. I asked if there was anything I needed to do to make sure my room was on my points, especially after I moved due to the AC issue last night. Hesitantly I was told "no, it's all set". I didn't leave confident.
Days after my stay, I discovered I was charged for the room. There was never a thought to ensure that my room wasn't going to be charged when I ask, I was brushed off without any checking.
I wouldn't stay at this hotel again because of the issues with service as simple things that are common with travel could not be addressed with any confidence, knowledge, urgency, or care.
Hyatt Place has been a “home away from home” for me for decades because of one thing: consistency. I know what I’m getting.
That’s why the Texas Street location in Houston stood out—and not in a good way.
It started simply: our 3-night stay showed up as three separate bookings. No big deal—until it was.
What should’ve been invisible became the stay—daily checkout confusion, repeated trips to the front desk, a 45-minute phone call, and about two hours total spent fixing something that shouldn’t have been ours to fix.
One interaction stood out—not in a good way. Dismissive, unhelpful, and unwilling to take ownership, including not once saying, “Let me get my manager.” A Hyatt Place system glitch should never become a guest’s problem beyond a simple, “Let me take care of that.”
Once that happens, people start keeping score.
Things to Make You Say “Hmmm…”
• Reservation confusion—and no token “sorry about that” beverage for the time spent sorting it out
• Blackout curtains that blocked light—but not sound. Between trucks, sirens, and one marathon alarm, sleep felt optional
• Breakfast woes. Powdered eggs and unripe melon don’t feel like much of a “benefit”
• Noticeable homeless presence along Texas Street
Things that Still Stand Out (Positively)
• Front desk staff—with one exception—were friendly and engaging
• Towels, pillows, bedding—all excellent
• Walking proximity to the Theater District and Daikin Park
• 5th-floor city view with a mural in progress was a nice bonus
…and Things to Consider
• Take pride in breakfast—that’s the difference between feeling at home and just being on the road
• Add real outdoor seating—one bench isn’t enough. Two bistro tables and four chairs = instant hero status
• Don’t ever make operational issues a guest’s problem
In spite of this stay missing the mark, I’m leaving a 3-star rating—the noise is the deal breaker.
Breakfast was okay. Eggs had a weird texture.
I would recommend to anyone looking for a clean peaceful stay. The hotel is clean and the staff is awesome. Nay was the best and extremely helpful. She went above and beyond in holding my luggage as I arrived early before check in . Such a pleasant stay. Oh and the breakfast !! must have. The pictures of the rooms are accurate.
Great place to stay when seeing the Astros. Walking distance to stadium
All good
