Spruce Lodge

Nothing. It was great.

It looks like it is still under construction so it lacked the lodge amenities and vibes. If you’re looking a place to sleep and that’s it it’s ok.

The bed itself was very bad as if someone had made cuts in the mattress under the padding.
There were no lamps next to the bed so the lighting was from four inset lights in the ceiling-lamps would've been nice. The sliding bathroom door didn't work real well..

There is no AC, but it is Alaska and it’s probably not at most properties. They did provide a fan.

Little outside town. Had to drive more than I wanted to.

Overall, the main issues were poor customer service, cleanliness, and the condition of the rooms. The front desk staff was cold and unhelpful, the property was difficult to navigate, and our rooms had sticky floors, stained and dirty sheets, and significant wear and tear on the walls. One of the mattresses was extremely uncomfortable and clearly worn out, with little support and springs that could be felt throughout the night. The third room, which was occupied by my fiancé’s parents, was probably the worst. Their sheets were visibly dirty. When they pulled the sheets back, there was dirt on the bed, and the sheets were extremely wrinkled, almost as if someone had already slept in the bed. We reported this immediately, and the attendant asked us to provide pictures, which we sent. About an hour later, she came to the room with fresh sheets and helped us make the bed. As a courtesy, she offered us a free coffee because of the dirty sheets. While I didn’t feel that a free coffee was an adequate response to something as serious as providing a room with dirty bedding, we accepted the offer.
However, we NEVER received the coffee. This was especially frustrating because it was something the property had offered to us directly as a courtesy, and it was never followed through. Housekeeping was also disappointing, as after requesting room cleaning and fresh towels, only the towels were replaced. Additionally, the coffee stand had poor customer service and served lukewarm coffee.

No conditioner, just shampoo. It would also be nice to have a dishwasher.

The beds are very “soft”.

Very limited to no staff at front desk - not very helpful because they are students and don’t really care. Cleaners only change towels - also work-study type. Floors sticky and very dirty (ruined my slippers). Room power tripped several times and had to reset power in fuse box. Water pressure in shower quite weak. Internet quite slow. Communication limited and not responsive.

The positive aside, they really have some things to work on. As a hotel with efficiency-style rooms, I'd expect the offering to be a bit bitter. We had one pan, one pot, a wooden spoon, cork screw, 1 "sharp" knife and a few other things. I was fairly surprised to see there wasn't a spatula and briefly debated buying one in town. Additionally, at the very least they could provide paper towels and tissues. That's right, our room didn't have tissues, which was super strange.

The room was spacious but the floor was really sticky. Not dirty sticky though, sticky from whatever they had cleaned the floors with. It was very strange. The walls could use some decor as the room felt utilitarian and sparse.

I also had no idea how to contact anyone on-site. When we got to our room we had 3 pillows and 2 towels for the two of us. I tried using their portal which really only lets you check in and out. I wound up calling the front desk and speaking to a somewhat confused girl who was able to get me what I needed. I had to go to the office which she told me was staffed during certain hours (was within those hours) to find the door locked.

Again, not terrible but definitely has areas for improvement.
