Good choice for breakfast both hot and cold options nice dining space

Breakfast was lovely. Good location. Friendly staff. Very clean. Great location as long as you don’t have any mobility issues. Not as close to some amenities as we thought
Bed was a bit soft for us but that’s personal choice. A lot of noisy roadworks around the front.
The hotel was a short walk from the start of the Shambles. We parked at Coppergatre carpark, we hold a blue badge so parking was free.
Lots of construction work going on all around the hotel big cranes, although there was no noise the outlook wasn't great and I wasn't told that this was going on. In the description it does say there's parking!
Location was great
The room could have been a little cleaner. It wasn't dirty, but some staining on rug and bedding, carpet needed to be vacuumed etc.

The RECEPTION LADY that booked us in was NOT GOOD. NOT POLITE - Even when English is your second language you should not respond to a question from a customer by saying "WHAT" in a surly manner.
It was very clear that booking us in was a real chore for reception - even more so when we asked for a quiet room. In fairness to her it looked as though she had been left to do everything on her own. I would ASSUME she is paid badly and worked overly hard and this results in poor customer service.
When we checked out the next day (with the same lady) things were SLIGHTLY BETTER but a long way from friendly/professional.
Breakfast - GENERALLY CHOICES WERE LIMITED
Only POWDERED SCRAMBLED EGGS were available, we were refused to have any other kind by the kitchen (never known that anywhere else other than a budget hotel).
CHEAP SAUSAGES were on offer. Thick heavy casings and with little taste or texture. Poverty food in a posh hotel.
POOR COFFEE - The milk from the Coffee machine was super sweet (worse than a Starbucks).
HOWEVER - The bacon was excellent. Both in terms of its quality and the way it was cooked. Streets ahead of other hotels. Well done.
ROOMS
The rooms were GOOD. Our room was right at the end of the corridor and nice and quiet, everything was new and in good condition.
SHOWER WAS GOOD - Large, worked well, reasonable power, not as hot as I would like but still good. Plenty of space.
BEDS - POOR!! - The beds were rock hard and the pillows were THIN AND OFFERED NO SUPPORT.
IN BRIEF
My view is that the minimum a hotel should offer is friendly staff (in sufficient numbers) a good bed, a hot shower and a nice breakfast. MORE SO IN A BIG NAME HOTEL. My experience here has been very mixed. - I TRAVEL FOR BOTH WORK AND PLEASURE AND THIS HOTEL WILL NOT BE ON MY LIST OF.VENUES TO RETURN TO.
