The hotel's design is nice and it is clean, the area is central, bedsheets and bathroom toiletry are really good (towels not so), front desk is great, and that's where all pros end.

I was choosing between a popular hotel chain and this boutique-ish hotel for the same price and chose this because of a newer minimalistic design, but it missed on so many basic hotel expectations.

I recently spent four nights at Nordic Hotel Lagos while attending the HMCA 2026 and choosed Nordic than the traditional chain hotels. I left with mixed first impressions that ultimately turned into a memorable boutique hotel experience.

The hotel itself is beautiful, exceptionally clean and offers a peaceful atmosphere that is a refreshing alternative to the larger chain hotels. From the lobby to the restaurant and guest rooms, the attention to cleanliness and staff grooming is outstanding. Every team member was professionally presented, and the serene environment makes it an ideal place to relax after the bustle of Lagos.

My arrival experience, however, did not quite live up to the high standards I expected from a premium boutique hotel. The airport transfer lacked coordination, and my check-in was affected by payment challenges with my bank. During that period, I felt there was an opportunity for the Front Office team to be more proactive.

Fortunately, the experience steadily improved throughout my stay, thanks to some remarkable employees who demonstrated what genuine hospitality should look like.

A special thank you goes to Vanessa from the Front Office, who became the STAR of my stay. Her warm smile, empathy, professionalism and consistent follow-up during my payment challenges made a lasting impression. She genuinely cared, checked on me several times, and ensured my concerns—including a television issue—were resolved promptly. She embodies the spirit of guest-centred hospitality.

Another standout was Dorcas from the restaurant team. From my breakfast arrangements to her friendly and professional communication over the phone, she made every interaction effortless and welcoming. Her attention to detail and genuine warmth perfectly reflected the boutique experience Nordic Hotel strives to deliver.

I would also like to recognise Daniel, whose initiative with management support in checking me into my room while I sorted out my banking issue immediately changed the direction of my stay. My appreciation also goes to Kassington, Emeka, Patience, and Augustin, each of whom contributed positively through their professionalism, friendliness and willingness to assist.

The food presentation at RYE Restaurant was excellent, and I particularly enjoyed observing the team's precision in preparing for breakfast service. The hotel also offers comfortable rooms, excellent water pressure, reliable air conditioning and a peaceful environment that makes relaxation easy.

Before checking out, I had the pleasure of meeting the General Manager, Mr. Gupta, and the Operations Manager, Ms. Ayo. It was refreshing to share my honest observations with leaders who were open to feedback and clearly passionate about continuous improvement. Their willingness to listen reinforced my confidence in the hotel's commitment to delivering an even better guest experience.

To make my stay even more memorable, the team surprised me at checkout with a beautiful birthday cake and a bottle of wine to celebrate my special birthday. It was a thoughtful gesture that perfectly concluded my visit and left me feeling genuinely appreciated.

No hotel is perfect, and I believe there are opportunities to further strengthen the arrival experience, restaurant guest engagement during busy periods, and the consistency of the check-in orientation. However, what impressed me most was the team's ability to recover, listen and genuinely care.

Nordic Hotel has all the ingredients of an excellent boutique hotel. With continued attention to consistency and guest anticipation, it will undoubtedly rank among the finest boutique hospitality experiences in West Africa.
