During our vacation in the Philippines, we stayed in several 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star hotels across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We started our trip at Okada Manila and had an amazing experience. At the end of our vacation, before returning to Poland, we choose to stay at Kingsford Hotel for two nights because it is also a 4-star hotel and the price difference from Okada was not much. Unfortunately, the reality was very different.
We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 children, ages 7 and 13). We booked two rooms with breakfast included through Booking.com. At check-in, the receptionist insisted that our 13-year-old son was no longer considered a child and demanded an additional 1500 pesos for his breakfast, even though Booking.com classifies him as a child and our booking clearly included breakfast. We were exhausted after our flights from Coron to Cebu to Manila, so we decided to just contact Booking.com about the breakfast fee later instead of arguing.
The lobby looks nice, but the rooms were disappointing. They were very basic, with no large bath towels, an empty body wash dispenser, mold in the bathroom, and only toothbrushes provided as complimentary toiletries. For a 4-star hotel, we expected much better. We actually received cleaner rooms, better service, and better value at a 3-star hotel in Cebu.
On our last night, my children and I had dinner at the hotel restaurant. After paying the bill, I told the cashier to keep the change as a tip because the waitress had been very kind and was genuinely happy. However, as my daughter and my wife were leaving the hotel to walk to Okada, a security guard stopped my wife because the cashier mistakenly believed she had not paid the bill. It wasonly after the waitress confirmed that she had already paid that the cashier apologized for the misunderstanding. It was a very embarrassing experience, as many people in the lobby were looking at her as if she had tried to leave without paying.
