Great stay at the Thompson
Pros:

Nice and comfortable hotel. Excellent service and food. We were comfortable in our hotel room. The Thompson is in a good location to walk to all the sites and it is also right next to the free 16th Street shuttle.

TV Issue
Pros:

In my experience with this class of hotel, boutique properties consistently have a technician available to troubleshoot TV and Wi-Fi issues for guests. I was surprised to be told I would need to wait until the next morning for someone to address the casting issue on my TV. To make matters worse, no one ever arrived to fix it, and I checked out the following morning with the issue completely unresolved.

Warm, welcoming, comfortable.
Pros:

The staff was excellent, attentive, and friendly. The little touches, like the greeting mats in the elevators and the bubbly offered at check in, were welcoming. Loved our stay overall!

Incredible stay at the Thompson!
Pros:

We stayed at the The Thompson for four nights and had a fabulous time. It was so easy to walk to Larimer Square, Ball Arena, and Union Station. We loved the spacious lobby with lots of couches and places to relax, and we were so impressed by the food that we ate most meals at the hotel!

Great stay!
Pros:

This is an outstanding hotel! Great customer service the location is excellent and within proximity to many places to eat or simply take a walk.

The rates were extremely reasonable and left me wishing that I had stayed a bit longer. I was only there for an event over a two-day period and then I came back home. I will say with no hesitation that when coming back to Denver this is the only hotel that I will stay at.

The Most Disappointing Luxury Hotel Stay I've Had
Pros:

I chose the Thompson Denver because of Hyatt's luxury reputation and expected a premium experience. Instead, this was the worst hotel stay I've had in years.

From check-in, hospitality was nonexistent. We weren't greeted, and the front desk interaction consisted of little more than "Mmmhmm...name?" I also chose this hotel because it advertises itself as upscale and dog-friendly, yet no one acknowledged my dog or offered any of the advertised pet amenities.

Our room smelled like urine, the HVAC never cooled despite being set to 63°, and the hotel had no fans available, forcing us to buy one ourselves. The shower had almost no hot water or water pressure. We also learned the room required leaving a key card in the wall to keep the power on, which is incredibly inconvenient when traveling with a pet. We met several other families walking the halls because their rooms were just as hot.

Service throughout the hotel was consistently poor. A soda at the bar took over 10 minutes while the bar was nearly empty. The advertised Social Club wasn't available to guests, and inquiries about the restaurant were met with indifference.

The most disturbing part came at checkout when a man made vile, explicit comments to me outside valet before walking into the hotel bar. My son immediately alerted staff, who did nothing until he confronted them a second time after becoming physically ill from the incident. Even then, no one checked on me or made any effort to ensure my safety.

As someone who builds hotels for a living, I understand that problems happen. Luxury hospitality is defined by how those problems are handled—and this hotel failed at every opportunity. Spend your money elsewhere.

vast, moody poetry translated into stone, timber, and glass
Pros:

The American West has always been a landscape of quiet, sharp edges—a place where the sky pulls back to reveal something massive and indifferent, and where the light at dusk turns the color of old flint. To step inside The Thompson Denver is to feel that vast, moody poetry translated into stone, timber, and glass. It captures the exact, melancholic cool of Colorado, a state that balances the weight of the old peaks with the crisp, mid-century sharpness of modern design. The Thompson understands this aesthetic better than anyone else. It avoids the tired, predictable traps of alpine kitsch, choosing instead a palette that feels like a crisp dusk in the foothills—deep, shadowy, and utterly grounded. It is a space designed for the modern drifter who appreciates both the bite of the mountain air and the comfort of a flawless leather chair.

The true soul of a place, however, is not found in the architecture, but in the people who anchor it. At the front desk, Mina was an absolute revelation. She possessed that rare, quiet competence that feels almost mythic, anticipating my needs before they had even fully formed in my mind. With professional grace and a warm, genuine friendliness, Mina guided me through a myriad of discounts and complimentary experiences that elevated the entire stay. Among these unexpected privileges were complimentary day passes to the nearby Athletic Club, a phenomenal facility located just a few blocks away, right next door to The Ritz-Carlton, which provided the perfect, vigorous counterpoint to the hotel's relaxed luxury.

Mina and the rest of the team worked a quiet magic, upgrading me to a beautiful corner room on the tenth floor. Standing in that room, one is instantly struck by the cinematic gravity of the space. With those gigantic, floor-to-ceiling windows allowing the Denver skyline to melt directly into the stunning, dark-hued room, I felt a bit like Michael Fassbender in the movie Shame—brooding, hyper-stylish, and entirely exposed to the seductive pulse of the city below. The room itself was anchored in sensory perfection, down to the choice of bath products. Providing D.S. and Durga Bowmakers amenities is a masterstroke; that rich scent of mahogany, walnut, and worn violin varnish perfectly mirrors the hotel's dark, intellectual Western aesthetic. Watching the shadows stretch across the Front Range while enveloped in that rich, woody aroma felt like watching a classic piece of Western literature unfold in real-time. The Thompson Denver does not just offer a place to sleep; it offers a vantage point over the great expanse, curated with a brilliant, moody sophistication.

Great location and staff, but not a $500/night experience.
Pros:

The Thompson Hyatt in Denver has a fantastic location in LoDo, right by Larimer Square. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and eager to help, and the room was very clean, which we appreciated.

That said, the room itself was very small, and the beds and pillows were among the most uncomfortable we’ve experienced. For a hotel charging over $500 per night, the sleep experience really should be much better.

We also ran into an issue trying to rent a movie because the hotel apparently lost its DirecTV contract. Thankfully, we were able to stream from my phone, but it was still surprising for a hotel at this price point. There is also no pool and not much in the way of amenities.

And then there’s the “destination fee.” Since they can’t really justify a resort fee or amenity fee, this appears to be their version of one. What exactly is a destination fee? By definition, if I’m staying at your hotel, it’s already part of my destination. Hotel fees in general have gotten completely out of control, and this one felt especially bogus.

Overall, the location, staff, and cleanliness were excellent and almost bring this property into 5-star territory. Unfortunately, the uncomfortable beds and pillows, lack of amenities, and blatant extra fees keep it from being a top-tier experience. For the price, I expected much more. It felt a bit like a La Quinta with a great location and very nice staff.

Delightful stay! Especially loved Chez Maggy and Server, Bailey.
Pros:

We stayed at the Thompson on a quick trip to Denver for pleasure, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is lovely and comfortable. We were wowed by the food at Chez Maggy, and our server, Bailey, was incredible! We weren't really upgraded with my Globalist status, so maybe don't expect that, but the breakfast was great! Looking forward to a return visit.

Wouldn't recommend.
Pros:

Good things: clean, well maintained, good food and drinks, friendly staff, good location.

Bad: they will include a 20% fee on all food and beverage purchases, and only inform you when the bill comes. We did not see any sign indicating this as is required by law in colorado. I dont mind tipping, but who knows where this fee is going. Also, we were on the 3rd floor and you can hear the DJ and club music very clearly until after 1:30AM. Unacceptable at the rates charged here.

Interesting: some of the hallways signs are 3d printed, as an enthusiast I thought that was neat to see.

Overall: Stay at the Sheraton.

Fantastic stay at Hyatt Thompson Denver
Pros:

Great hotel in ideal location in downtown Denver. The room was clean and quiet. A highlight was Chez Maggy, the hotel restaurant with excellent food for both breakfast and lunch. The hotel is 3 blocks from Union Station with easy access to the airport and along the rejuvenated 16th Street with lots of restaurants and stores and a free bus to connect through downtown.
