An exceptional hotel, but the people are what make it unforgettable
I don’t usually take the time to write reviews this long, and perhaps that already says something. This is simply my small way of giving something back for everything I received during my stay.
I came to Chania combining business with a holiday, and The Tanneries is one of those rare places that stays with you after you leave.
The hotel is beautiful, right on the water, with wonderful rooms and atmosphere. The breakfast is exceptional and the restaurant is excellent.
But what truly makes this hotel special is the people. From the moment I arrived until I left, the entire team was warm, attentive and genuinely kind. They remembered our conversations, gave me great recommendations and made me feel truly welcome.
Sometimes when you travel, you meet people only briefly, almost like a leaf brushing against you in the wind, but somehow they leave a mark. That is how I feel about the people at The Tanneries.
If I return to Chania, for business or holiday, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else.
Thank you to the entire team for making my stay something I will remember long after leaving Crete.

10/10 - An Exceptional Stay
The Tanneries Hotel & Spa was honestly one of the highlights of my stay in Crete. Everything exceeded expectations.
The room was incredible - spacious, beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, and with a breathtaking sea view. The proportions, materials, natural light and attention to detail made the entire space feel both luxurious and peaceful.
The service was outstanding from beginning to end. The team was warm, attentive and genuinely helpful without ever being intrusive.
The location in Tabakaria was perfect for me - quiet and directly on the waterfront, yet still close enough to Chania and the Old Town. Waking up to that uninterrupted sea view every morning was something special.
And Periplous, the restaurant downstairs, was excellent. Beautiful setting literally by the water, delicious food, great drinks and an atmosphere that made you want to stay there for hours.
What impressed me most is that the hotel is intimate rather than oversized, yet nothing feels compromised. The rooms are generous, the design is exceptional, the views are stunning, and the entire property has character.

I genuinely struggled to find anything negative to say. An exceptional boutique hotel and absolutely somewhere I would stay again when returning to Chania.
Hôtel superbement rénové. Suite présidentielle magnifique avec belle vue des balcons. Petit déjeuner copieux et varié. Massages 👍.
Le manque d’amabilité à la réception (pas de bonjour sauf si le client le dit) et au petit dej pour un 5 étoiles!. En revanche, les femmes de ménage étaient adorables et la personne s occupant des voitures aussi. 25min à pied du centre ville mais jolie balade
