The view of the harbor. Friendliness of staff. Location to downtown. .
Very dark an drab around the whole hotel. It looked like there just wasn't enough lighting. Very sterile feeling to the hotel. Toilet paper was horrible. My opinion it should be a more lively reception area.
Excellent Location, Amenities, Service
First time visiting Iceland and one of the best hotels and experiences I’ve ever had! Hotel was spotless, staff were amazingly helpful, friendly and proactive in ensuring a fantastic experience! Without any hesitation, and I’m picky, I would highly recommend the Reykjavík Edition. Truly helped to make our vacation in Iceland a wonderful experience!
We had an incredible stay at The Reykjavik EDITION as a group of 8 across 3 rooms, and it truly exceeded expectations from start to finish.
The location is unbeatable—right on the water and perfectly central, making it easy to explore the city while still enjoying those stunning waterfront views. The atmosphere is unapologetically boujee in the best way—stylish, elevated, and vibrant without feeling overdone.
The rooms were beautifully designed and extremely comfortable, with standout touches like heated bathroom floor tiles that made a big difference after long days out. Everything was impeccably clean—honestly some of the cleanest hotel rooms we’ve experienced.
While I’m a Marriott Titanium member, I’d say this property definitely caters to a higher-end traveler, but the experience matches that level. It feels worth it for a special trip.
Despite being lively, the hotel manages a great balance with noise—quiet and relaxing when you want it, but energetic and fun when you step into the social spaces.
Service was a highlight. The team went above and beyond to celebrate my bachelorette—they surprised me with chocolates and even a “trophy wife” sash in the room, which was such a fun and thoughtful touch. That level of attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed.
Amenities were fantastic—one of my friends especially loved the spa. And the energy at both the rooftop and bar was perfect for our group. The servers were not only attentive but genuinely fun and engaging, helping get us into a celebratory mood each night.
Overall, an amazing stay and a perfect choice for a group celebration. Would absolutely come back.
I wanted to update my review of The Reykjavik EDITION because unfortunately my experience after checkout has been extremely disappointing.
I am still waiting for the return of my incidental deposit, which was approximately $900 USD, over a month after checkout.
I initially contacted the hotel and was told it could take around three weeks. It has now been almost over four weeks, and despite multiple follow-up emails, communication has become inconsistent. Sometimes I receive a response, and other times I receive no reply at all. The overall message I’ve been given is essentially that there is nothing they can do.
For a luxury hotel at this price point, this level of post-stay customer service is extremely disappointing and stressful, especially when such a large amount of money is involved.
I understand that bank processing delays can happen, but leaving guests without clear communication or meaningful assistance for nearly a month is not acceptable.
I truly wanted to love this hotel, especially because I stayed there during a very important milestone birthday trip to Iceland, and while I was there the customer service was great, but this unresolved issue has unfortunately overshadowed much of the experience.
Incredible location - amazing views - fantastic restaurant - great access to the city
Valet parking was efficient and convenient - worth the price.
Beds were very comfortable.
Helpful and friendly staff. Welcome gift drink for anniversary was a lovely gesture.
The breakfast was extremely expensive for a family, free breakfast for kids would be a nice touch - they usually only want a bowl of cereal.
The lighting in the rooms was overly atmospheric and not that useful. Theres a lot of furniture in the room and they aren't that big so things went missing and were hard to find. An overhead light for these situations would be an improvement.
The cups in the in room hot drink station were not appropriate for tea drinkers.
Excellent Location
Todo espectacular
Todo me gustó
I recently stayed at The Edition Reykjavik; the staff and the property fell far short of what a 5-star hotel should deliver.
The problems began the moment I arrived. Staff helped the car in front of me but left me completely unacknowledged for an extended time period; no greeting, no help with my luggage from the car. This set an unwelcoming tone from the start.
The room itself lacked basic amenities I’d expect at this level; something as simple as a shower cap was missing. More frustrating was the room temperature: the room was extremely hot, and despite asking several times to have it adjusted, staff was unable to resolve it. I ultimately had to open the window just to sleep comfortably.
The staff throughout my stay were consistently unhelpful and inflexible. I attempted to order dessert from the restaurant to take to my room. I asked and was refused. So I offered to simply sit at the bar to have it there. I was then told that the bar only serves cocktails; no food whatsoever could be ordered there. For a hotel restaurant, that’s a baffling and frustrating policy.
The answer throughout my stay was almost always “no” or “we can’t” with little interest in accommodating the guest or finding solutions. The Tides Restaurant manager was outright rude.
To top it off, the staff lost my bags at checkout; an unacceptable lapse in process for any hotel, let alone one billing itself as five-star. And it was not even busy!
Overall, this property was understaffed and the service culture was overtly indifferent to providing guest satisfaction. I would not return and certainly cannot recommend it for the price point.
As a special treat we stayed her on our first night of a week in Iceland, based on reviews and general feeling that this Hotel was truly exceptional.
Very welcoming reception and quick check in. Staff were excellent throughout our short stay.
Room was very modern and nicely appointed.
However it is very expensive, even by Icelandic standards, just didn't have enough wow factor to justify the price. Felt like a very good 4*.
I’ll start with the good news: the breakfast team was wonderful. Hold onto that thought, because it’s the only nice thing I have to say.
Quick bit of context before I get into it — this hotel was bought by Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company for €230 million and is run by Marriott under the EDITION brand, their supposed pinnacle of luxury lifestyle hospitality. I mention this only so you understand quite how far the reality fell short of the brochure.
Room 642 — someone else’s underwear, anyone?
The room wasn’t properly cleaned when we arrived — pillows still dumped on the chair, general sense of “eh, good enough.” But the real discovery came the next day: a pair of used women’s underwear, visibly soiled, stuffed inside the pocket of one of the robes. I cannot stress enough that I am not being dramatic. There are photos. When we reported it, the housekeeping manager wanted to come inspect the room himself first — as if we might be making this up — and the resolution they landed on was a bottle of wine. I looked it up later. Eleven dollars. We were moved to Suite 314.
Room 314 — slightly less biohazardous, still a mess
The key card didn’t work. Fine, annoying. More concerning: the bottom door lock was completely broken. So we’re in a luxury suite relying on an interior chain. The thermostat was also locked to heating only — no cooling — which in a harbor-facing room meant the only option was sleeping with the window open. Dear Gentle Reader, that becomes relevant very shortly.
The 2 AM sing-along nobody asked for
With the window propped open out of necessity, we had front-row seats to a group of 20-30 hotel guests who decided the harbor outside our room was the perfect venue for a late-night party. Yelling, singing, laughing — until 2 AM. We called the front desk multiple times. Their opening offer was earplugs. I’m not joking. It took real persistence to get security involved, and even then the noise didn’t stop until 2 AM. We were exhausted for our entire travel day home.
The staff situation
The male concierge welcomed me at check-in by telling me I looked tired. A bold opener. The breakfast front desk host was rude but did apologize after I said something — credit where it’s due — but the pattern throughout was clear: good service only appeared after you complained for it. It was never just… there.
And then, as I was literally walking out the door to catch my flight, the front desk stated there manager wanted to discuss my concerns. Two nights of issues, multiple complaints, and that’s when they find the time. I had a plane to catch, so I’ll be addressing my concerns to Marriott directly instead — which I have, in the form of a formal complaint and refund request.
For €230 million you’d think they could stretch to a door that locks and clean robes. Apparently not. I wouldn’t go back, and I’d think twice before you go at all.
This is our second visit to Iceland in three years, and once again we chose to stay at The Edition. We truly love this hotel—not only for its stunning views of Harpa and the harbor, but also for the exceptional staff who consistently make our stay so memorable.
I was so delighted to see Joy again at the front desk! I remembered her from our first visit because of her warm, welcoming personality, and she once again made our check-in experience seamless and enjoyable.
Morgan, the concierge, provided invaluable recommendations and thoughtful guidance as we planned our 10-day itinerary. We are incredibly grateful for his insight and genuine hospitality.
We also had the pleasure of dining at Tide, the hotel’s Michelin Guide restaurant. Veronica has taken care of us since day one—she remembered our preferences, brought a wonderful sense of humor, and made every dining experience feel personal and special.
After our daily adventures, we looked forward to unwinding at the hotel’s beautiful and tranquil spa. Frances was especially kind and attentive, adding to the overall sense of relaxation and comfort.
Upon our arrival, Angel greeted us with the warmest smile and kindly assisted us with our luggages and car. His genuine care and attentiveness made us feel immediately welcomed and set the tone for our stay.
Every member of the Edition team contributed to making our stay truly exceptional. We are already looking forward to returning again.
wygodna lokalizacja, dobre sniadania
Your trip to Iceland isn't complete without a stay at The Reykjavik EDITION. I was blown away at every turn. The moment we arrived we were greeted with hospitality and warmth. The room was designed with an intentional nod to its nordic roots-impeccably modern but also delightfully cozy. The bathroom featured heated floors and a luxurious waterfall shower. The complimentary spa was the icing on the cake of this stay and included a sauna, steam room, and hot tub. I was relaxed from the moment we arrived. The staff here went above and beyond in many ways from a sweet note and gift left in our room to helping us troubleshoot when our rental car wouldn't start. Shout out to Dimitar, Daniel, and Oskar who made our stay extra special. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
