The hotel was situated in a quiet area with no through traffic and had plenty of free parking. The hotel appeared relatively new and was generally very clean, although there were odd stains on the floor in the bedroom which is common in hotels which cater for single travellers and contractors, the car park having numerous liveried vans parked up. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times and responded to phone calls from the room in a timely manner. The bedroom was quite roomy, quiet, clean and airy. We stayed on the third floor facing the car park. A large double bed was comfortable and there were two choices of pillows, medium firmness and soft and low. I preferred the latter so I got a good night's sleep. With carpeted corridors there was no noise from guests as they arrived and left. The bathroom had a small sink but a decent-sized shower with simple controls and a good mix of water. Importantly the air con was easily controlled and almost silent and there was a kettle with tea and coffee. The breakfast room was easily accessible and light and roomy with the food arranged along one side. However its availability could have been better. Overall, the hotel was a pleasant place to stay and within easy reach of Cambridge and the American War Cemetery at Cambourne. Would I stay again? Not sure for the reasons given below.. Maybe if there was no other choice.
Okay. Overall the hotel wasn't a bad place to stay, Apart for two things. The TV wasn't a smart TV and only had BBC channels and Channel Four etc. So if you like BBC news or The Simpsons, you're fine. However, I think every hotel should have a smart TV these days and was disappointed that Netflix and Prime weren't available. Perhaps the biggest negative was the breakfast. It began at 6am and closed sharply at 9am. This was a hotel policy in order to suit contractors and business people, rather than ordinary travellers who may want a lie in. The hot food was limited to a few items. Potato croquettes, tomato, bacon, sausage, beans and scrambled egg. By 9am, most of it was cold or unavailable. Items weren't re-filled. The bacon was thick, burnt and salty, almost inedible, the scrambled egg dry and the potato croquettes cold. When I mentioned it to a manager the first morning and then to the general manager the second morning, I was told that it was because it was 'free' and a balance had to be achieved. What they apparently meant by that was that the company, Holiday Inn Express 'brand' only permitted certain items and as a guest you didn't pay for it. It was complimentary. I argued this point on the basis that the breakfast was advertised at the time of booking in order to attract customers. If it was advertised, it should be of good quality and edible. The 'free' terminology had been challenged by the Advertising Standards Authority in the past but Holiday Inn Express didn't think that their ruling was applicable in this scenario. I'd argue that if you don't eat breakfast you should get a refund...
Whatever your thoughts are on this topic, if you keep to cereal and toast with tea or coffee, breakfast is passable. If you like a hot breakfast, you could well be disappointed. I was told that I probably wasn't a Holiday Inn Express 'brand' customer, whatever that meant.

Clean, comfortable room. Very well laid out. Lots of good design features like the side lamps that come on when you swivel them, large pegs on the wall, built-in ironing board cupboard. It just worked well.
Close to where I needed to be. Easy parking and access. Needed a quiet room and was able to have one at back of property.
Although new, the carpets were about grubby in my room and the shower screen leaked water onto the bathroom floor.
