We stayed at Lagoona Sunset in late June 2026 and had a very pleasant experience overall.
The experience started on a great note. A hotel representative was already waiting for us at the Maafushi jetty when we arrived, helped us with our luggage, and walked us to the hotel, which is only a few minutes away on foot. At check-in, we were warmly welcomed by Mal, who was exceptionally courteous, professional, and customer-focused. She completed the check-in process quickly and took the time to explain everything we needed to know, including breakfast timings, hotel facilities, and useful information about the island. She also recommended Room 304 on the third floor, mentioning that it had the best view. She was absolutely right! She also made sure to let us know beforehand that the hotel does not have a lift and asked if we were comfortable using the stairs, which I appreciated because it set the right expectations from the start.
The room itself was spacious and comfy. Good view, and having two balconies was a bonus. One balcony even had a drying rack, which was useful after returning from the beach or water activities with wet clothes. The room was cleaned every day, complimentary drinking water was replenished, and the toiletries provided were of very good quality.
Another nice touch was that the hotel provides complimentary beach towels that guests can borrow every day, as well as free snorkeling gear for anyone wanting to explore the waters around Maafushi. They also organize excursions and tours, although we didn't make use of them during our stay.
The only area where I felt there was room for improvement was breakfast. The variety was actually quite good, with both hot and cold options, juices, tea, and enough choices to suit most guests. However, there were simply too many flies around around the breakfast area on the ground floor every morning. It became quite distracting and made it difficult to enjoy the meal comfortably.

Great service! The staff booked my boat tickets ahead of time and picked me up at the pier. They respond super fast to messages. Room is large. It’s located in a quieter area, but the island is so small that location doesn't really matter.

Doors and windows leaked during heavy rain. Breakfast was always cold. We were not asked if we wanted to vary some of the items like boiled eggs or omlette etc.
