I normally stay at this hotel every time I am in London. It is a good balance between location, price and comfort. However this time I did not like the fact that the hotel did not inform me that there where repair works to the building going on. This meant that I could not open my window, I had to have the blinds down all the time and in the morning while heading to the shared bathroom I had to go through the protective plastics full of mud. If I had known this I certainly would not have booked here. I think the hotel should either inform before hand or apply a discount to compensate guests for the hassle.
Nice staff and the location is very handy for Paddington. Bathroom tiles were particularly nice.
Scaffolding all up the front and broken window latches meant the room was insecure. No aircon but as the square is noisy all night (it is central London so to be expected) it’s a choice of being too hot or being woken by the noise. No lift (the nice staff did offer to carry bags up) and the doors to the rooms have zero soundproofing (and no soft closers so they slam). Room was big but poorly laid out so it was hard to find somewhere to have my suitcase open somewhere on the floor without it being really in the way. No iron or tea making facilities in the room.
But the biggest annoyance was the toilet roll. It was one of those 1 square at a time dispensers. I don’t know what sort of guests they expect to have but that sort of thing shouldn’t be inflicted on anyone.
Location is terrific. Staff was exceptional. Loved that I could leave my luggage before check in and after check out - super convenient. The front desk staff even carried my large suitcase to my room for me!
Fantastic location. Our room had lovely decor and was a reasonable size. It was very clean.
You can hear the underground from around 5.45am until late. We didn't mind the noise, but can imagine some noise sensitive people might struggle.
We had a good room on the second floor, though even there, we could feel a slight vibration from the subway. Overall, however, if you’re looking for the experience of a classic English hotel—complete with sash windows and shutters—it’s a fine choice.
If you end up with a room on the ground floor or lower, it certainly won't be your best night.

Das Problem an diesem Hotel ist weder das Geschrei vor der eigenen Zimmertür, die steilen Treppen, das ungemütliche Bett, die winzige Dusche, in der man sich nicht drehen kann - nein, all das eignet sich bestens für einen Harry-Potter-Abstellkammer-Memorial-Trip. Das eigentliche Problem ist das Gesindel, das sich in der Umgebung des Hotels bis 4 Uhr morgens anschreit und auf die Schnauze haut. Man hört diese Leute, und sie nerven extrem.

Воры !! Украли золотую цепочку. У нас есть деньги но она была памятной. Торопились утром на самолет, сын в попыхах не надел цепочку с камнем. Вернулись через час , нам предложили перетрясти мусор. Мы не гордые перетрясли . Но мы же понимаем золотая цепочка с большим переливающийся камнем , ну как бы в мусорку нее полетит

Location is excellent. I found there was very little noise disturbance. The room was small but clean and perfectly functional.
The lack of even a small lift would have been even more of a hassle if my bag was any heavier - there are quite a few very narrow stairs.
