Great location, quiet. Beautiful Japanese decor with modern comforts.

Possibly the loveliest, most relaxing hotel l have ever stayed in. This is a 19 room hotel on the riverside in a quiet part of central Kyoto. Without doubt the stars are 1: the staff - They were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble, everything done with a smile and courtesy, 2: the roof garden terrace, which overlooks eastern Kyoto enabling you to enjoy half of the city whilst you have breakfast, dinner or just drinks. All beautifully served and presented by the staff at, wait for it, not outrageous prices.
We were on the 3rd floor and had a really great room, with lots of luxury and space.

The location is excellent - there are bars, beer places, restaurants galore within a short walk and it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the JR station.

Un boutique hôtel superbe dans un petit quartier paisible et bucolique au bord de la rivière Kamo, à une dizaine de minutes à pied des rues animées.
Les ruelles autour de l’hôtel valent le détour.
La chambre est spacieuse et décorée avec goût, les amateurs de design seront conquis.
Le personnel est au petit soin, d’une gentillesse remarquable.
Le rooftop offre une très belle vue sur Kyoto et la rivière.
Des vélos sont à disposition, je vous le recommande +++, découvrir Kyoto à vélo est agréable et très pratique !!!
Une buanderie est à disposition, pour ceux qui restent plusieurs semaines au Japon c’est fort pratique !

Le personnel, la localisation, la vue, le style

Breakfast was excellent and beautifully presented. Location was perfect.

Un petit bonbon d’hôtel caché dans le Vieux Kyoto.
Il est tout petit, il est caché, il est dur d’accès (il y avait des travaux sur la route) mais une fois qu’on y est quel bonheur!!
Dès l’arrivée, on a l’impression de rentrer à la maison tellement l’accueil est gentil.
L’hôtel est magnifique, très belle décoration, ambiance chaleureuse et élégante… et notre chambre était waouh ! !
Petit jardin japonais sur la terrasse, chambre spacieuse, éclairages doux et une salle de bain de rêve, organique.
La seule chose que j’aurais pu reprocher (mais c’est moi et mes habitudes de voyageuse) c’est qu’il n’y a pas de buffet mais un petit déjeuner excellent, frais, raffiné, préparé à la minute et servi à table : vous vous régalerez. De toute façon ils ont tout ce que vous voulez, ils peuvent tout vous préparer.
Nous avons beaucoup de mal à quitter cet hôtel, son staff adorable et Kyoto

We got the whole house Japanese style. Very clean and cozy. Special credits to pillows - best sleep ever!
The hotel is not the middle of busy area - you have to walk about 15 minutes.
Pro tip - if you order a breakfast order one for each person. Hotel stuff told us that one order for two people is more than enough - so maybe we were just hungry and it's not an American size of dish.

Cet hôtel est de taille agréable, au calme au bord de l’eau. Le design est épuré et très joli. Le personnel est très sympathique. Le prêt de vélo est un plus très apprécié.

Beautifully designed hotel with so many great touches. The staff were exceptional & every detail thought about. It was very easy to get an uber just walking 2min. We loved having breakfast in our room - delicious Western breakfast. Our room had so much space with a desk plus dining table making it very comfortable & the view over the river was wonderful.

We stayed at Genji on our honeymoon and it was our absolute favorite place we stayed.

Beautiful hotel all around! A balance of aesthetics and functionality as well as a mix of Japanese and western design.

The staff was amazing - very welcoming and attentive. One thing that stood out to me is that I bought a little toy cat from a gacha machine and had it sitting out on the counter. The next morning at breakfast, the kitchen staff had added foam art to my cappuccino depicting the cat. I found so sweet and such a great representation of the attention to detail and thoughtfulness.

This is not a negative but just a note: the location is a bit further from the main areas on most tourist itineraries (Pontocho Alley, Gion, etc.) but has great subway connectivity to those areas. Also this is a great location if you plan to take day trips out of Kyoto station. The hotel is right on the river in a quiet neighborhood with local charm. One thing we loved is the sento Umeya just a couple minutes walk away.

Breakfast in the room was incredible. But the layout of the space was surprisingly modern and traditional at the same time. I really loved the Quadruple Room. Its a gem.
