In The Midst of Nature Looking at the Volcano!
Pros:

Sangregado was spot on! It is situated right next to Mystic Park (in fact the entrance is the same pathway up, with Mystic hanging bridges to the right, and Sangregado to the left as you drive in). There is park security when you enter the drive way - and you have to let them know you are going to Sangregado. We had an easy check in, and were escorted to our cabin by the front desk. The reception area is a very small front desk kiosk - and they will assist people with the check-in, and help you with your luggage over to the cabin. Each cabin is designed in a way to get a view of the Arenal volcano - and it is surrounded by incredibly lush greenery. I simply cannot get over the view - even the bathrooms face the volcano - and it is simply magical to leave the blinds drawn at night and to wake up with the sight of the volcano - whether is is misty or clear!
The cabin layout is eco-chic (no closets - however there are hooks to hang up a few clothes); minimalist kitchenette with a microwave, and coffee maker, a good sink, a fridge, and mini bar treats. Same day laundry services are provided for a fee (and we noted there was no iron, although we didn’t ask for one - I’m sure they would have provided one).
If you want to be immersed in nature and feel the sound of forest, the thunder and the sheer beauty of Arenal, this is one exceptional experience at Sangregado. Breakfast was included in the price of the room - it was a 10 min walk to the Blue Hibiscus lounge which is the restaurant belonging to the Lost Iguana hotel. The breakfast was a decent buffet with great views. There is a shuttle provided also by Sangregado - you just have to let them know ahead of time which meal(s) you would like to do at the Blue Hibiscus.
Sangregado’s front desk can also arrange for tours at Mystic park. Additional notes: the town of La Fortuna is about 15 mins drive (best to have your own wheels); good eats at Selva Rustico (a chain - there is one about 10-mins drive from Sangregado in the direction of La Fortuna). And the Bogarin Sloth trail is great to do!

Pros:

Great stay overall, good breakfast at the lost iguana.

Cons:

We got stopped at the Mistico checkpoint every time before getting to the hotel which was inconvenient, sometime having to wait in long car line before able to pass. We advised the hotel to get guest passes.

Room in the rainforest with a spectacular view
Pros:

The view from the room AND shower was spectacular and part of the main reason I stayed at the lodge, so 10/10 for that. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the lodge location is literally right next to the Mistico hanging bridges park, which I recommend visiting as well.

Cons:

The lodge is in the rainforest and there is always humidity, so was a distinct smell of mold/mildew in the air in the room, but as long as you kept the AC and fan on, you go nose blind fairly quick.

Terrible Customer Service
Pros:

We came to Sangregado last year with a family that wanted to stay at a hotel with a low price range. We found this one and decided to give it a try. Although the hotel has absolutely NO amenities (no pool, restaurant or anything) and the rooms are very small, they are clean and have nice views, but what impressed us the most last year was the amazing costumer service. This year we are traveling with another family and although they could have stayed in a more expensive hotel we told them about our wonderful experience last year and decided to come back. I made the reservation for what I thought was 2 rooms for 4 people each back in April, received my confirmation (see photo) which doesn’t say how many people the reservation is for and thought I was good to go. Turns out somehow they had me as if I had made the reservation for one room for 4 people and another for 2, I want to clarify that back when I made the reservation both rooms had the same exact price per night, no difference if it was for 2 or 4. When we showed up this June, they said my reservation was for 6 and that if I wanted to add two children I had to pay an extra $180 per night for the room. Mind you, the nightly rate of the hotel was $247 back when I made the reservation. We were floored!!!! I told them we were returning customers and that if the price was the same for 2 or 4 back when I made the reservation why did it matter so much and why they had to charge such a high fee for two children. They said it was because of the included breakfast and “policy” of the hotel. A policy that it is nowhere to be found on the website or mentioned on the confirmation email. The girl at the front desk was robotic in her answers and “nicely” rude. I spoke to the manager on the phone, because there wasn’t a manager at the hotel, and he said he was going to look into it. Three hours later they sent me a text saying they had made the “difficult decision” to charge the $180 extra per night… we’re talking about $360 extra for two kids in a hotel that costs $247 per night! I felt so frustrated, I did not want to stay at this hotel anymore. It was almost 7pm at this point, since they had spent over 3 hours making this “difficult decision” as they put it in the text, so we had no choice but to stay that night. However, I went to The Lost Iguana hotel which is right down the street, and actually the hotel where Sangregado’s “included” breakfast is at and asked them if they had rooms available. I found out that for less than $100 more per night I was able to stay there, a hotel that has two pools, restaurant, bar, and amazing service. When I told them I was checking out the next day regardless of whether I had to pay the other night or not they decided to “take the matter to higher management” and told me they could waive the $180. This was almost at 9pm. It took them from 3-9pm to figure out how to make a returning customer happy!!! Needless to say we paid the two nights we were supposed to stay and left without staying the second night. My husband is in the hotel
business and he could not believe a hotel was willing to treat a returning costumer like this. My recommendation is if you want a hotel in that price range go to The Lost Iguana. The rooms are huge and beautiful, the restaurant is amazing, they have two pools with a swim up bar, a beautiful trail with a hanging bridge right on property, AND great customer service!

The property is beautiful and the view of Arenal from our villa was breathtaking. The breakfast at the neighboring property was delicious. We also enjoyed several good dinners at the restaurant. I loved everything about Sangregado and would highly recommend it. Additionally, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Beautiful views from my room, good value, just a long drive to the property.
Pros:

The room was great! Beautiful scenery and views from my balcony. I liked the fact that there was a microwave in the room. Fresh coconut drink as a complimentary welcome.

Cons:

Giant spider in my room the size of my hand. WiFi wasn't the best, so TV wasn't working. Currently under construction. Long drive to the property.
