The location, the room - all great (apart from the no air con bit)

The staff have a few things to learn about customer service, especially a lady with dark hair. No smile, didnt even look at us when we approached the reception, but what shocked us the most was when we asked this lady to call us a taxi, she refused and gave us a sheet of paper with taxi numbers saying we can call them ourselves. As we use this facility everywhere else, we were completely gobsmacked.
Air con didn't work. There was a memo on the wall next to it to not turn it on because it doesn't work. Good job we didn't stay in this hotel during recent heatwaves.

A pleasant stay in a nice location, but bar food and drinks too expensive.
Pros:

The room was clean and appropriate for dog owners and the dog blanket, towel and treats were appreciated. Dogs were allowed in the bar and lounge area. The staff were friendly and helpful. My wife had a massage in Spa which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Cons:

The 2 chairs in the room were heavily stained and grubby and should be cleaned/replaced immediately (regardless that it is a dog friendly room should be no excuse). We had a bar meal, the service was slow and very expensive (£149) for 2 people with 4 drinks. While the food was good, it really wasn't special enough to justify the high cost (no items from the grill). This included a £16 service charge which wasn't clearly stated on the menu and which in hindsight, I should have refused to pay.

Pros:

Beautiful location and good facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Visited Cartmel and national trust places. Snooker table, nice bar and food

A great lakedistrict stay
Pros:

Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location on the river . The spa facilities are great too

Cons:

Although the food and drink is brilliant, the pub and breakfast dining was very disorganised, with staff either not knowing what to do or there not being enough staff to cope. It made the dining in the evening and at breakfast a bit of a stressful time
