Best hotel I’ve booked on booking.com
Pros:

We just returned from our stay at the Barceló Old Town Hotel in Funchal, and honestly, it’s the best hotel experience we’ve had booking through Booking.com. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming from start to finish.

Breakfast was an absolute highlight. As a vegan family, we were thrilled to find so many naturally plant-based options: steamed, grilled, and raw vegetables, rice, potatoes, fresh fruit, and fresh juices, along with pan con tomate and fresh breads. The kitchen also went out of their way to prepare extras for us — fried tofu one morning, chia seed pancakes with maple syrup another, and plant-based yogurt that we mixed with nuts, seeds, and cereals from the granola bar. Every one of these touches was fantastic and clearly made with care.

A special mention for Carolina at the concierge desk, who is an absolute gem. She organized multiple outings for us, including hiking and swimming excursions, and pointed us toward outstanding restaurants and shops in the area that we never would have found on our own. Her local knowledge and enthusiasm made a real difference to our trip.

Pros:

Toplocatie met deftige en gerieflijke kamers. De rooftopbar met zwembad is pure luxe. Ontbijt is prima met veel keuze.

Cons:

Bereikbaarheid met wagen. Geen parking aan hotel.

Hope to be back one day my beautiful Madeira and would stay at Barcelos the whole.
Pros:

This was such a lovely start right in the middle of the old town in Funchal, next to the Se Cathedral. Loved loved our time here. Gorgeous decor and view from rooftop pool area, amazing.

Heerlijk hotel, matige kamer zonder uitzicht
Pros:

Mooi hotel met heerlijk ontbijt in de oude binnenstad van Funchal. Alles ziet er modern en verzorgd uit, de medewerkers zijn beslist vriendelijk. De minibar was niet gevuld en dit werd direct opgelost. Het gebied is autovrij dus vooral fijn als je geen huurauto hebt. Fijne rooftop bar.

Cons:

Onze kamer (103) had een deur/ raam naar een heel klein binnenbalkon, dus zonder uitzicht. Dat stond niet in de boeking. Op het heel kleine balkon staat een enorme luchtbehandelingsunit die 70dB geluid produceert, dus de deur kan niet open zonder veel overlast van geluid. Had ik dit geweten, dan had ik deze kamer niet geboekt. Jammer is ook het dakterras waar een heerlijk zwembadje is en lekker ligbedjes. Maar dat zonde dat het zwembad het uitzicht op de stand en zee blokkeert. Je kijkt tegen de meter hoge muur van het zwembad aan. Ik denk zomaar dat de architect hierover beter had moeten nadenken.

Scarsa attenzione nel riassetto delle camere: 2 gg non hanno messo il tappeto per la doccia, 1 gg abbiamo dovuto chiedere il telo doccia, i teli piscina non sono mai stati sostituiti in 7 gg… tolti quelli sporchi abbiamo dovuto usare i teli doccia, non sempre rimpiazzavano cialde caffe e i bicchieri usati
