Shining Star Hotel

This is the worst hotel experience ever. First, the hotel is no where near a 4 star hotel, the bed felt horrible, the pillows are uncomfortable, and the breakfast is horrible. The powdery/watery carton eggs tasted awful and had a weird smell. You cannot get hot water or tea. The orange juice tasted like concentrate in a gallon jug. Not real juice. Very limited fresh hot food. You cannot even order fresh eggs/omelette. The staff members, with the exception of the bell man, were super rude and unprofessional.

The cleaning lady rang my room door three times, telling me she wanted to clean my room. She walked in on me while I was in the shower and I told her to come back in 20 minutes. She rang my room bell twice after that to come in and clean.

The next day, I asked for a late check-out and I was behind an hour after the the late check-out time, so the front desk manager instructed the cleaning lady to come and open my door, prop it open, and demand to clean immediately. I stood there in pants and a t-shirt, partially dressed. This hotel is a 2-star at best, horrible food, horrible staff, and expensive. Fortunately, this hotel's quality and service is not representative of Istanbul. Do not go to this hotel, you will hate it.

I had booked a stay here two months ago for my travel dates in March 2026. Due to the war/conflict my flight overseas was cancelled. Although both my airline ticket and hotel booking was listed as non-refundable, the airline was quick to offer me a refund or credit, keeping these unique circumstances in mind and protecting my safety. The Shining Star hotel however will not budge on their policy which is extremely disappointing. If I cannot travel with my airline to my destination to the dangerous situation (and I have provided them proof of my flight cancellation by the airline), how does the hotel expect me to stay there? Again I’d like to state I’ve been requesting a cancellation politely since a month before my booking dates so they had more than enough time to be accommodating to me and replace my booking with other guests who will actually use the rooms! I had booked 2 rooms for 3 nights since we had quite a large group that was traveling but the hotel made ZERO effort to remedy the situation despite my multiple kind attempts. All that was said in return was to contact my airline for reimbursement (which makes no sense- the airline did credit me back for the flight that had to be cancelled due to the ongoing war but why would they also reimburse me for the hotel I booked?). I understand when I booked it said “non-refundable” but there should be some heart and consideration given due to the ongoing war affecting our safety and travel plans. Again our flight was cancelled by the airlines so we had no control over that aspect but the hotel is just wanting to take our money knowing we are physically unable to reach there.
I’m glad we didn’t actually get the chance stay here- I cant imagine how they would treat us in person if they will not provide us with a refund due to something that’s out of our control, that they did not provide us any service for, and considering there is a WAR happening around us! Very disappointing and inexcusable response to the war by Shining Star hotel. I will add that when I am able to reschedule my trip, I surely will not be staying here and recommended others to avoid as well.

Everything was clean, personnel was nice and helpful, modern facilities and rooms. View on Ayasofya is also a great bonus (not for all apartments, but was visible from mine)

The breakfast variety is great. The location is excellent with all the restaurants and famous old town sites nearby!

Questa è la mia seconda volta in questo hotel. Poco da dire, è sempre una garanzia. Struttura pulita, posizione eccellente, staff gentilissimo.
Ci tornerò sicuramente.
Un grandissimo saluto ai ragazzi della reception.
