They say you have a $100 bond to pay on the property at check in so charge you the price of your room plus $100 then they hold this money as a bond and make you pay the same price for your room the next day. We ended up paying $630 for our one night in a $265 room. We will get $365 back from our bond however they only advertise as taking $100 which as a young couple treating ourselves to a nice room for the night was quite a shock as we only budgeted for $365 and now have $630 pending in our accounts.
The staff were very kind and accommodating. I had an accident just before coming to the hotel and they were very flexible in accommodating my needs due to my injuries.
This place is all what the postive reviews where. Customer service was excellent, from the movement we walked in, every staff had a smile on there face. The place was spotless! A big thank you to all of the staff, you guys where amazing. And thanyou for the lovely gift upon arrival. It made the weekend memorable. See you again. 😊
Modern rooms and amenities
The night light setting was too bright
So close to the theatre
Aircon bmanual wasn’t clear we could not turn it off
Loved the location- 5 minute walk to Parliament station. The public areas were fantastic, including the foyer bar and Dolly. Brilliant view from the rooftop pool, which I imagine would be stunning in the warmer months.
A disappointing view of a wall, but at least it had a funky mural. To be fair, I got a "cheap and cheerful" room, so I can't really complain!
We stayed at Le Méridien Melbourne for a special occasion, but the experience did not match the hotel’s five-star positioning.
Before arrival, we informed the hotel that we were celebrating an anniversary and also let them know that we would be arriving early. We fully understood that early check-in was a request, not a guarantee. However, given that we had communicated our situation in advance, we expected at least clear communication and some sense that the request was being actively managed.
On the day of arrival, we arrived early in the morning and later returned to the hotel to check on the room. To be fair, we were eventually given access before the official check-in time. The issue was not the wait itself. It was the way the wait was handled. While we were sitting in the lobby, other guests appeared to be checked in and taken to their rooms, yet the explanation we received was largely limited to the official check-in time and the room not being ready. The process felt procedural rather than attentive.
This stood in contrast to another lower-positioned Marriott property in Melbourne, where we had previously received a more considered early-arrival experience: clear communication, a proper pre-check-in process, and suggestions on where to wait comfortably. They did not promise what they could not guarantee, but they made us feel looked after. At Le Méridien Melbourne, it felt more like being processed than welcomed.
After we entered the room, the issues became more concrete. The message card prepared in the room referred to a birthday, even though we had only mentioned an anniversary. It was a small detail, but for a special occasion, it made the gesture feel generic rather than thoughtful.
More concerningly, the welcome fruit had visible mould on it. We threw it away immediately. This was not a matter of preference; it was a basic hygiene and quality-control issue. The room itself also did not appear to have been cleaned to an acceptable standard, with visible dirt in some areas. Even basic housekeeping details, such as replenishing complimentary water, were inconsistent.
The room-ready message also arrived only after we had already entered the room. Technically, it was sent; practically, it served no purpose.
The breakfast benefit then became another recurring issue. Breakfast was included as a membership benefit, and we had selected it. Despite explaining this multiple times, it did not seem to be properly reflected in the hotel’s system, and we had to go through the same conversation repeatedly. Charges also appeared to have been applied until we pointed them out. A benefit that requires repeated explanation does not feel like a benefit.
What stood out across the stay was the hotel’s uneven relationship with “standards.” It seemed strict about standards when flexibility was requested, but inconsistent when its own basic processes needed to be delivered.
Le Méridien Melbourne may have the branding, location, and lobby of a five-star hotel. Based on our stay, however, the service, communication, housekeeping, and quality control did not feel five-star.
Clean, friendly and location
If I was being really picky, the breakfast. They don’t keep the buffet hot as the heat lamps are not enough to warm the food.
Stayed here for a work trip and was genuinely impressed by the hotel gym.
The hotel is great. Lovely staff. Lovely rooms and a great bathroom! Breakfast is a really nice buffet or a grab and go in the foyer cafe. The coffee is great - it is MElbourne after all.
The equipment is all Technogym — premium quality and well maintained. Here's exactly what's available for anyone wondering:
**Machines:** Chest press, lat pulldown, leg extension/leg curl combo, dual adjustable pulley cable system (adjustable for upper and lower body — chest press, rows, shoulder press, flies, cable curls, hip abduction and more)
**Free weights:** Dumbbells from 4kg to 22kg, kettlebells from 4kg to 20kg, medicine balls
**Other:** Adjustable bench, cardio equipment is the usual treadmills and technogym bikes.
**Heated pool** around 20m (that's a guess when I stepped it out) also available which I used for laps — excellent for low-impact recovery sessions. There's a dry sauna as well.
The space is compact but smartly designed — everything you need for a full upper or lower body session. The Technogym cable machine alone covers a huge range of exercises.
I am just a regular gym goer - I guess if you needed really heavy weights or specific equipment you'd get a day pass - but for everything I do I was able to get in a good chest and leg day while travelling for work.
Would return specifically for the gym facilities. Highly recommended for anyone travelling with a training programme.
