The Arts Hotel

The location of hotel is ideal when attending downtown events plus it’s within walking distance to waterfront. Bed is very comfortable and room is minimalist and clean.

A perfectly mediocre place to stay; nothing terrible about it, but nothing to sell it on either.

Pros:
- Clean
- Conveniently located near all the main restaurants and shopping (though mind that the street can get loud on weekends)
- The next-door Dali cafe has pretty good breakfast.

Cons:
- Spartan minimalism, to the point where there isn’t even a secondI bedside table. If you’re sharing the bed with someone, prepare to fight over one tiny shelf and the loser will have to put their water cup on the floor.
- The showers themselves are nice, but the handles are those horrible metal bricks that are not intuitive to use and uncomfortable to hold even before your hands are wet. When your solution to adjusting the temperature dial is “hold it with a towel” you’re doing something wrong.
- Most hotels have a coffee machine and/or teapot in the room. Not this place, instead they have a “social lounge” where these things are shared - fair enough, nothing wrong with that on the face of it. Except the coffee machine requires a payment (usually the in-room stuff is free), there are no mugs only paper cups, and not even a single tea bag, apparently it’s bring your own!

Are any of these things a deal breaker? Probably not. We spend four nights here and it was fine, we managed to use the showers, bought our own tea bags, and I didn’t even step on my water cup once! But it’s not like the cost reflects these inconveniences, you are still paying full price for a hotel room that feels kind of like sleeping in your friend’s living room.

Also, for a place that calls itself the “Arts Hotel,” it really couldn’t get any more boring. The whole aesthetic can best be described as “grey minimalism.” The rooms have all the charm of your big chain Delta or Mariot, but with even less comfort. The so-called social lounge is equally boring, the only entertainment being a single tv screen, even the games are under lock and key somewhere and you need to ask for them. None of these things are a sin or a reason not to stay here, but the point is that the place does not live up to how it’s advertised.

If all you care about is a bed to sleep in, then this will do just fine. But for the same price you can easily find a much more charming place to stay in Charlottetown (just don’t make our mistake of leaving booking to the last minute, which is how we ended up here), that is equally close to things and doesn’t stinge on tea!

The room was clean and comfortable even if it was small. There wasn't a mini fridge but we could store some stuff on the second floor ! We were on the 4th floor so the noise from the live music wasn't a problem. There was always someone available at the reception so we got fresh towels really quick and easy! There wasn't a parking but the staff was helpful and the parking meters are free on the weekend so it was okay.

The staff were so wonderful. Karam and the young lady whose name I forgot but is studying to be a nurse were literally the only good thing about our stay.

Excellent location! Great value.
