After popping in to the Golden Lion for a cold drink during a walk with my wife in the Warwickshire countryside, we decided to book a night's stay and evening meal as it was just such a beautiful spot and the staff were so welcoming and friendly! The photos will tell the story of our stay better than I could, but it was a really wonderful little break. Our room was very attractive and spotlessly clean, the view was idyllic, wrens and blackbirds singing away, even a cheeky young woodpecker hopping about just in front of the window. A very nice walk into the neighbouring village of Harborough Magna (photo of sheep for context) was rewarded with a lovely glass of pinot back at the Golden Lion. Highly enjoyable evening meal, the atmosphere is set up perfectly, creating an intimate and comfortable romantic setting. We both slept really well in the dark, quiet room, while the constantly changing light of dusk and dawn created wonderful views out of our little windows. Facilities excellent, shower excellent. The breakfast was just perfect, cereal and toast, coffee, orange juice and a full English set us up for the rest of our day (photo of brekkie is sub optimal as neither of us could wait to start eating it). Many thanks to the owner (?) for making things so easy and wonderful for us!
Convenient location. Clean, good sized room. Pleasant breakfast with friendly staff. Lovely historical pub. Good parking.
Drinks at the bar were not good quality and warm. There was a intermittent noise coming from a nearby room which made sleep very difficult. I called reception after an hour of noise at almost 1am, explaining it was impossible to sleep with the noise. I was told it could be water heater. I did say that whatever the noise I was unable to sleep in the room. The lady said she would go and look but I heard nothing back and the noise continued. I did not sleep. Avoid room 226 if this noise is a permanent issue. Lack of communication or any kind of resolution was disappointing.
Nice location. good parking and big rooms!
It was a very noisy hotel for a weekday. For some reason, the pipes were making clanging noises throughout the night. Sounded like there was a lot of water flowing through the pipes in the hallway,.. making constant noises that I didn't sleep well.
As a lone female traveller I felt very safe and welcomed.
Easy to find and the place was clean and comfortable
Quiet little pub hotel, just 5 mins from the wedding venue we were attending, staff very helpful and friendly.
Prefer a walk in shower.
