We had a wonderful stay. The views were absolutely stunning, and the renovations completed so far look amazing and have really enhanced the hotel.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make our stay memorable and ensuring everything ran smoothly. A special thank you to the barman (I’m so sorry I forgot your name!) who took such great care of my husband after he hurt himself. Your kindness and support were truly appreciated
Thank you to everyone for such a fantastic experience. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend this hotel.
Location, double aspect, quite room with a perfect view.
We were told it was a refurbished room! Apart from new furniture and bed, the room may have had a minor face-lift, but the view made up for it. Breakfast is buffet style, which was tepid and all over cooked with scrambled egg and no other option. The continental style was good, though. Wedding venue orientated, but that puts off midweek guests. For weddings, it will be a great venue when its all refurbished, but that's what they are gearing up for.
The Views were to die for, the gardens were exceptional. 25 minute drive each way for either Whitby or Scarborough.
The staff were brilliant, very polite, smiley and very amenable.
Upon telling them I was disappointed with our first room they were more than happy to make sure we had a renovated room. Which was comfortable, lovely view, the bathroom was very nice and worked beautifully for us. The resturaunt staff were great with our little one too.
Our first room was not one of the renovated rooms, so it was very tired looking, the bed wasn't comfortable and the bathroom extractor did not work, there was mould in the silicone and behind the radiator pipes. we were left to make a makeshift mattress for our baby in the travel cot. As the travel cots only come with a hard base, so I had to make it comfortable with towels and a sheet. The daido rail in the corridor clearly needed a wipe as it was stained either tea/coffee and general mucky marks. We were not told it was under renovation at the time just that there was an event on.
Loved views and area beautiful staff fabulous loved the food slept amazing no noise
No tea spoon in room and pillows a bit flat and hard
This was the venue for my daughters wedding it was exceptionally well organized the location is stunning the staff exceled themselves. The food for the wedding breakfast was excellent but the buffet breakfast was not as good as my first stay. I would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding but the rooms were expensive.
The rooms were over priced for the evening of the wedding and the breakfast not as good with the hot buffet food been slow to be refilled.
Coffee and the location.
I emailed the hotel three times before leaving this review, hoping to resolve my concerns privately. They never replied.
I booked the Grand Villa for a peaceful birthday getaway because of its remote location. Instead, I arrived to a hotel that felt tired, dated and in need of a deep clean. The entrance carpets looked dirty, reception was cluttered with wedding items and nobody was there until I rang the bell.
Our room also felt dated, but the biggest issue was the noise. A wedding reception with a live band was directly outside our room, vibrating the walls. We were moved to a so-called “luxury suite”, which wasn’t luxurious, and we no longer had the sea view. We could still hear loud wedding guests until after midnight. There was no warning when booking that a wedding was taking place. Hotels should either separate wedding guests from other visitors or make this clear before booking.
Dinner was disappointing. The waitress focused entirely on my partner, made a real song and dance about his height, and ignored and wouldn’t look at me even when I spoke directly to her. I found it unprofessional. Speaking of unwanted pests, there were flies in the restaurant that wouldn’t leave the food alone. My glass had a lipstick mark on it, my lasagne had spongy pasta and was covered in bland, flavourless cheese, and my partner’s steak was tiny.
Breakfast was equally disappointing. There were flies around the buffet, the cooked breakfast was bland and tasted as though it had been sitting being steamed in the hot trays for a long time. The fresh fruit and coffee were the only passable items.
Beautiful location, but not the peaceful luxury stay we booked. Most disappointing to be completely ignored after emailing the hotel three times.
I expected genteel but a bit shabby..it was so much better than that. the room was lovely, staff friendly etc. Breakfast was just right too.
my sons tv didnt work and there was a world cup match on! A member of staff tried to help but they couldnt get it to work
The self service breakfast was excellent and we found the staff helpful and pleasant. The location is fantastic with beautiful views and great walks in the area. Our room was clean and spacious, but quite hot due to the sun on it all morning and a bit noisy due to the kitchen fans.
Although our room got hot, we liked having the good weather and the ability to get out.
Friendly helpful staff
Lovely grounds
Nothing
Clean large rooms good location
There was a wedding taking place which meant we were guided through a small dingy corridor as to avoid the wedding party when accessing the stairs. There was also no evening access to the gardens. The breakfast was served in the bar area and not by the windows with views out onto the cliffs. I felt hotel guests are kept in the background during wedding parties.
The location and the sea view in Robin Hood Bay.
