The hotel does have a prime location on the lake so it's very pleasant to be in the area after the day trippers have gone.
The staff who dealt with us on reception, in the bar and restaurant and especially at breakfast were outstanding - definitely 10 out of 10. Hospitable, friendly and welcoming throughout. The food too both in the evening and at breakfast was extremely good, freshly prepared and with generous portions and well cooked. The evening menu is a little limited but in staying just 2 nights that wasn't an issue. Certainly at least a 9 for food.
The bedroom, apart from an overlooked full bin, was clean, bright and pleasant as was the bathroom but for £181 per night it was overpriced for what was offered.
The value for money comment I've made is for these reasons: the room for its price is small. I was glad to be on my own rather than fitting two people into it. There was a double bed but there was nowhere to put clothing really as there were 3 coat hangers in a wardrobe but no shelf space other than a very high shelf which wasn't of any practical use..The bedside tables only had one very shallow drawer. The small desk 'space' was filled with the tea and coffee tray so nowhere to write easily. I was delighted there was a bath but there was no soap other than the dispensers which aren't in reach when in a bath. There are no hooks in the room to hang an outside coat or two. There is just a blind over the window which needed to be pulled down as the room directly overlooks the car park - with a nice view beyond - but certainly the occupants of the room are visible from the car park. The only ventilation was from the one window. I know it's the Lake District but it would need a fan in hot weather as the room faced south. I believe I was staying in a standard double. I'd certainly look for something bigger in future.
The breakfast, in fact all food, was delicious. The staff were friendly and seemed happy to be there.
The description of the lake view apartment makes it sound as though it's a separate property from the main building (at least thats how I read it). Due to our party's size, we wanted somewhere that we could stay up a little later without disturbing other guests. However, the apartment was in the same area as the other rooms. Not a huge deal but we did feel like we were sneaking around a bit.
Stunning location
Very clean, comfortable room
Tasty breakfast
Nothing
Perfect location, clean, comfortable room, staff friendly and welcoming and very accommodating of our dog. Our evening meal was plentiful and piping hot, buffet and cooked breakfast options were fine. Would definitely visit again.
Husband complained about the beer! Not quite cold enough, seemed to lose any 'life' quite quickly down the pint. And no-one seemed able to pour a proper head, apparently!
Prachtige lokatie en zeer vriendelijk personeel
Niets
staff were great, especially the male manager. Lots of breakfast options and lovely food and outdoor seating area. Perfect location next to the lake and surrounded by so many beautiful trails
The staff were all very personable and made myself and my daughter feel very welcome straight away. The breakfast was delicious with a good variety to choose from. The room was very clean with super comfortable bed. Everything was perfect. Thank you to all the staff for a beautiful stay. Mel and Frankie Monaghan
Nothing all good
Best hotel ever , awesome area. Nice big hotel .
0 amenities nearby! A farm shop which opened at 10am
This is the 2nd time I have visited this hotel, the location is so beautiful. If you are a hiker everything is on your door step, great walks. A regular bus picks up outside the hotel, a cafe there, while you wait. The pub joined to the hotel, excellent food, big portions.
The hotel has clearly changed hands. The reception has disappeared, now you book in, in the pub. I think this is a great lose, everyone likes a smiley face, to welcome you. Cleanliness is not up to normal standards. We stayed in a King room, shower was poor, water cold and not alot of water coming through. The ceiling, in the bedroom was covered in cobwebs and dead spiders. What u paid for the room was not worth it.
Lovely stay in a beautiful location. Great for pottering around the lake or trying something more adventurous in the fells.
Location. Altho we drove the hard way in!
Lovely Bar.
Great views.
Food delicious and Staff all lovely.
You could hear everything, I went for a lie down n had the window open n could hear a ranger on his walkie talkie n it felt like he was standing next to me.
I struggle with the stairs, perhaps could do with bannisters on the ‘mind the steps’ ones along the corridor? Not a criticism, just an observation.
Location was good. Country lanes not so good. Room was very good, great sized bathroom. Evening meal ok, but had to wait a long time for it. Very busy in the evening.
Check in could have been better, had to wait for appropriate person, they were not busy then. Mix up with evening meal, had to wait a long time. We didn’t bother with breakfast.
Location fantastic. Breakfast excellent. Bathrooms refurbished
Size of room.
Great location, room was comfy and food - dinner and breakfast - were both delicious. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. Special shout out to Malcolm who we met at breakfast, so friendly and kind 🙂 thanks for a great stay.
