As someone who has lived in Hertford most of her life the transformation of the bar and restaurant is amazing. The staff are also welcoming. Unfortunately, I will no longer eat here. The menu is awful and never changes with the season. It needs to offer better lite snack options for lunch as well. I think it has lost a lot of local people because of the menu, but McMullen’s don’t seem to care. A Saturday lunchtime in the summer and the bar area was empty even though there was no availability to book? We were a group of 7 and twice we were waiting for one persons food to arrive as it had been forgotten. With the heat the way it is you would think air conditioning would be a fantastic selling point! Please please update your menu and get someone descent in the kitchen. The Kingsmead is far superior and that shouldn’t be the case. Make the Salisbury great again!!!! 🙏🏻

Ultralaute Musik überall, viele Zimmer von Firmen belegt und gar nicht verfügbar, Personal bieten nur schlechte Zimmer für hohe Preise, weil die normalen Zimmer alle von Firmen reserviert sind.
lovely lovely old building with lots of history and tastefully set up interior. wonderful bar and bar food. amazing atmosphere. their fish & chips plate was the best we had in the UK.
asked the stuff to solve an issue with the shower, was promised to deal with it, still nothing happened. it is not dramatic, but a dissapointment.
We had booked a snug room but were very happy when we were allocated a double room which was very spacious. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Situated right in the middle of shops and restaurants so that was also a bonus. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast..we had there signature full English on the first morning..which was local produce and very tasty but very large so asked for less on the other 2 mornings which the chef was happy to do.
Had a really nice roast dinner on the Sunday evening.
It is a gem of a hotel. Would definitely recommend and if ever in Hertford again I would definitely book there.

Fantastic place to stay for a few days, chic, in great location with fantastic staff. Shout out to Anna, the receptionist, for going an extra mile to help us get around the town with ease! You made complicated travel arrangements a breeze!
We stayed here as part of a corporate event, and this lovely hotel was outstanding from start to finish. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed.
The rooms are full of character and very different from the standard chain hotel experience. Each room felt unique, with comfortable beds that ensured a great night's sleep.
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice and freshly cooked-to-order options available. The quality of the food throughout our stay was exceptional.
Our whole team thoroughly enjoyed their stay, and the friendly, attentive staff made the experience even better. I would highly recommend this hotel for both business events and leisure stays. We will certainly be returning.
