Pleasant and relaxed with a convivial atmosphere.
Pros:

Room spacious and comfortable, Location of Hotel & the town itself. Interesting architecture. Staff friendly and obliging. The Hotel building itself is characterful and quirky.

Cons:

The stairwell is looking a bit scruffy....needs another coat of paint. The towel heater in our bathroom was not working properly. The safe in our room was not working, alarm clock not working...needed a new battery, a little more regular checking would be good. These matters, with the exception of the towel rail, were dealt with quickly and efficiently..no complaints there! Also a non-slip shower & bath mat were supplied when asked.

Pros:

The decor was nice

Cons:

Breakfast ( The Signature ) was cold, a very small portion for £15. Egg was overcooked like rubber, toast was tough, asked for it to be reheated and came back luke warm. Coffee was weak and watery despite asking for 2 extra shots in the latte.

Room was either freezing cold or boiling hot, not a great nights sleep. Very load as its over the courtyard.

Adequate; venue pleasant but some features, e.g. breakfast, not value for money.
Pros:

Have stayed a number of times at the Salisbury Arms (old Bell) and know it for an old and charming building. The snug
always a plus for quiet meetings with friends when we return. No lift is becoming more of a disadvantage as we get older due to the main stairs being steep and the odd steps up and down, -which are, nevertheless, to be expected in an old building - but awkward if accommodated in farther rooms. Pack lightly as cases need to be hauled up by guests themselves. Air conditioning worked this time, thank goodness. An improvement on last visit. The room was comfortable, if rather warm.

Cons:

Staff mostly pleasant and helpful., although some additional training would be beneficial for the two restaurant staff who spent their time chatting in the kitchen and flirting together one morning, rather than replenishing the buffet. Unprofessional. The polite and attentive young Polish woman, who was there the second and third mornings, however, was exemplary - polite, attentive and efficient. Do wish it was possible to work out when housekeeping was due on each corridor though. We left one morning early and let the team working next door know, but the room was still not serviced on our return nearly five hours later, so was not touched at all that day as we needed the WiFi for a meeting in the afternoon. The WiFi was fine, however, and this should be noted.

The biggest disappointment was the restaurant and breakfast. A once gracious dining room has been truncated to allow for a 'garden' /courtyard area, which is obviously very popular and, hopefully, commercially beneficial, but the remaining restaurant is rather hideously re-modelled in maroon panelling and already showing signs of wear-and-tear. Whatever about internal decor, however, the breakfast is disappointing for the price. Very limited choice of cereals, no fruit choices apart from an apple or two and some worn bananas - forget about fresh berries or melon,, no plain yoghurt, a few pastries, no choice of bread, 20+ marmalade pots, 3 strawberry jam and so on. The cooked dishes have been what one chap in the room described as 'mucked about' i.e. no traditional English breakfast as he rightly said, and liberal doses of syrup. ff attempting American diner style, cheap streaky bacon - a poor choice anyway for a full English, 'signature' or otherwise, should be served crisp. If sourdough is promised, it should also be present, not a slice of pappy bloomer - see no bread choice above. Obviously tastes change, and avocado may be popular, but not for all.
