Staying at Château de Picomtal was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
This is not a traditional hotel but a charming guest house set in a real French château. It's worth keeping in mind that the amenities are quite simple: you'll find towels and shower gel in the room, but no slippers, shower caps, or other hotel toiletries. For us, this was a very small trade-off for such an authentic and unique experience.
The castle itself is beautiful. Elegant historic rooms, antique furnishings, and breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains create an atmosphere that's impossible to find in an ordinary hotel. Walking around the grounds in the evening was especially magical.

Breakfast in the historic dining room was another highlight, and the hosts were incredibly friendly and happy to tell us about the fascinating history of the château.

There aren't many restaurants within walking distance, so having a car is definitely convenient. On the other hand, guests can use the shared kitchen, which includes a microwave. We bought fresh bread, local cheeses, fruit, and vegetables from nearby shops and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the castle. It felt relaxing and very authentic.

The château is also an excellent base for exploring Lake Serre-Ponçon and the beautiful villages and mountain scenery nearby.

If you're looking for a place with character, history, and a truly special atmosphere, Château de Picomtal is an experience you'll remember long after your trip.

The location is a real dream, and the owners are really kind and do their best to let the guest be confortable. Lots of suggestions are provided.

Esperienza davvero oltre le aspettative!!!
Il castello è un sito storico, convertito in struttura di ospitalità, a seguito di un eccezionale lavoro di restauro conservativo, sia nella struttura, che per tutto ciò che concerne arredi e decorazioni.
I proprietari, che gestiscono direttamente l'attività, hanno mille attenzioni nei confronti degli ospiti. Noi non parliamo il francese e poco l'inglese, ma da parte loro c'è sempre stata la massima disponibilità per darci suggerimenti ed accogliere le nostre richieste.
La camera famigliare (con letti singoli in una delle torri🤩), con vista lago, era spaziosissima e dotata di ogni confort. Non c'è TV in camera, ma personalmente non ne abbiamo sentito la mancanza. Non c'è aria condizionata, ma con attenzione al cambio d'aria la struttura, pur essendo in agosto, non era particolarmente calda.
Gli ospiti possono condividere tutte le sale comuni del castello durante il soggiorno, nonché lo spazio esterno, che è una balconata sul lago.
La prima colazione comprende alimenti dolci e salati di produzione locale.
A disposizione macchinetta per caffè (utilizzo libero) e piccolo frigo con bevande a pagamento.
Molto apprezzabile la presenza di una cucina con stoviglie e frigo, in cui poter conservare (o cucinare) propri alimenti consumabili nell' area allestita con tavolini davanti al castello.
Insomma...tutti gli ingredienti utili a vivere davvero un' atmosfera da favola, in cui i proprietari sono presenze discrete, ma sempre presenti per ogni necessità, per dare suggerimenti o indicazioni.
In alcuni giorni della settimana vi sono visite guidate aperte al pubblico, gratuite per gli ospiti. Anche questa un' esperienza davvero curata.
Davvero nulla lasciato al caso al castello di Picomtal!!!

We loved the location and the independence of the annex where we stayed.

The property is beautiful, you feel as if you’ve stepped right into a fairytale. The room has been artfully furnished and is very generous in size, and the furniture is in keeping with the scale and time period of the chateau. The bed is a bit on the firm side, but not uncomfortable. If you are looking for a break from the modern day hustle and bustle, this is your type of getaway. We enjoyed how quiet both the rooms and the grounds were. Two of the nights we were there, we chose to dine al fresco, and enjoy the views of the lake and mountains, as well as the gardens at the back of the property. The breakfast was lovely. Each day, the hosts provide fresh pastries, fruits, cereals, meats, and cheeses from the region. There is a small cost for this, but it is well worth it.

Picomtal foi uma de nossas estadias mais surpreendentes de toda viagem, ao chegar no hotel fomos recebidos pelo anfitrião, que mora no local também super simpático e solicito em ajudar! Estar nesse local foi como ser transportado através do tempo, a sensação era de estar em um local encantado e mágico, a propriedade é muito bonita com seu jardim e suas construções de época, internamente ele surpreende mais ainda, o quarto que ficamos era muito confortável e limpo.

Het gehele plaatje. De passie waarmee de eigenaren het kasteel tot in de laatste details compleet hebben gerestaureerd verdiend alle lof.
Je waant je voor enkele dagen in een heel andere wereld waarbij niets te veel is om je verblijf speciaal te maken.
Je kunt je dag beginnen met een heerlijk ontbijt in een prachtige ruimte, waarbij de eigenaren graag bereid zijn om e.e.a. te vertellen over de geschiedenis en de restauratie.
