It was very disappointing.
Pros:

The check-in and check-out, and the parking went well.

Cons:

The room we stayed in (number 1) which was on the ground floor, has a nauseating damp smell. The bathroom was the worst that that I have experienced. It was full of mould. For the price paid, all we wanted was a clean room for a one-night stay and did not receive that. In general that hotel needs a revamp; the carpets leading to the rooms need to be replaced as they are terribly stained. The patio door leading to the outdoor eating area, is very dirty; yet a little ammonia will restore it to almost new. The outdoor eating area tables also have mould growing. a good cleaning regime needs to be implemented as soon as possible.

We had a good time and would stay at the Marilyn again.
Pros:

The hotel was just what we needed for the weekend. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, which I appreciated. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great - some mornings buffet-style and some mornings set menu. The rooms were really quiet, even though the hotel was fully booked, and we slept really well. We were glad to have a small fridge in the room.

Cons:

The hotel is a little out of the way if you want to be close to Durban attractions and don't have transport. We didn't mind, as we had a car and could be in the city within 15 or 20 minutes.
