Chough's Nest Hotel

I've lost count of the number of times my husband and I have stayed here now. We usually stay at least once a year, sometimes more often, as a little treat.
It's the perfect base to explore Lynmouth and Lynton and the surrounding area. It's very clean, comfortable and excellent value for money. Every room has a fantastic view of the sea. No doubt we'll be back soon.

Lovely hotel overlooking the sea. I had one of the photos from our window featured on BBC West weather whilst staying there.
The cleanliness and housekeeping was second to none..immaculate. The quality of the bedding was gorgeous..highest quality and felt as if you were sleeping on silk. We found the bed more comfortable than our own bed and would of liked to of taken it home !
The bathroom was very good apart from a couple of points:The mirror is not heated so after a bath as it gets very steamed up..there are other mirrors in the room, but that's not the point..if it's in the bathroom it should be fit for purpose. Also the vent was full of dust (important as no window)and the door was hard to close without banging.
One thing we did have a problem with was that the curtains did not have blackout linings and it was extremely light very early in the morning..whilst this may not bother everyone, it is often listed in hotel facility room lists as a given. Also a couple of complimentary bottled waters in the fridge would be nice.
The breakfast was very well cooked, presented and served with good choice available. Special requests can be pre ordered if not on the menu.
Dinner can be booked in advance on certain days with two main options (at time of review) plus lighter bites available. We didn't eat dinner but it smelt delicious when we passed the dining room and wished that we had !
There is a sitting room which , although looking a bit dated would be comfortable in the colder months with the open fire lit.
We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and watching the bird feeders there ..we saw the woodpecker too. The views are outstanding.
We used the famous cliff railway several times as after trying to walk the zig zag path found it too hard. Beware that it is quite costly but should be done at least once.
We walked the valley of the rocks and Watersmeet. Wonderful!Take plenty of cash for parking as phone reception is intermittent and if you cannot connect phone you have no way to pay.
All in all a lovely place to stay and we thoroughly recommend.

Lovely comfy room at the top of the house. Breathtaking views. Despite being very warm weekend, fan was left on for me a lovely breeze from the windows

A great location with beautiful views across the bay.

Exceptional 2 night stay. As soon as we entered this hotel it felt amazing. It felt like we were entering a place that was meant for royalty and there were so many interesting ornaments and paintings for us to look at. The staff were so friendly and accomodating. The rooms were massive and spotless and had everything we needed as well as an amazing ocean view. Breakfast was delicious and well presented. You can really feel the pride and love that has been put into all aspects of this Hotel. Out of 14 other places we stayed on this SWCP holiday, this was definetly our favourite. Our highest recomendation possible!

Charmantes Hotel mit wunderschönen
Blick auf die Bucht. Es war sehr sauber, die Betten wirklich gut und das schöne grosse Bad hatte uns Platz genug gegeben. Das Frühstück hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt und hat unsere Erwartungen voll erfüllt. Die Möglichkeit einen kleinen Obst- und Gebäckssack in extra vorbereiteten Beutel mitzunehmen, fanden wir sehr aufmerksam.
Auch der Ausgangspunkt zu dem unmittelbaren Küstenweg zu Valley of Rocks hat uns sehr begeistert. Rundum für uns eine absolut empfehlenswerte Unterkunft.

Das Haus zu finden war ein Glücksfall, ein ehrwürdiges Haus mit zeitgemäßer Ausstattung.
Die Gastgeber sind ausgesprochen gastfreundlich und bemüht
Das angebotene Abendessen und das Frühstück im Salon des Hauses sind ausgezeichnet.
Auf unserer nächsten Reise in den Süden Englands kommen wir sicher wieder hier her.

Quel endroit splendide et atypique! Nous avons beaucoup aimé la gentillesse des propriétaires de la maison et la vue incroyable. Le petit déjeuner servi dans une belle salle avec nappe blanche sur les tables; on se sent vraiment plongé dans une ambiance so british... lovely!

This is such a magical place perched up on the cliff side with gorgeous views out to sea.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable with various teas, coffee and biscuits provided in the room. Breakfast is delicious with plenty of choices. They are very aware of food allergies, especially celiac and wheat intolerance. There is a separate menu for gluten free meals. The owners used to run a bakery and bake their own bread including gluten free which is absolutely delicious. Each day there are cakes in the breakfast room which you can help yourself to and take away for later if you’ve filled up on their other breakfast offerings.
This was our second visit and I’m sure we’ll be back!
