It was tired in places and you could clearly see it had not been maintained as expected for the price per night. Breakfast was poor.
Beautiful location. Great for hiking the Wainwrights. Loved the history of the flooded village and the decor of the hotel. Would definitely stay again! Lovely food and dog friendly with amazing views from the restaurants.
Was a little out of the way for some and down some narrow roads but that's the type of hotel we love!

Beautiful hotel with a stunning view and gorgeous interior. We loved the place and would happily return.
Cleaning service was a little strange - they wouldn't do some basic things like make the bed, clean coffee cups or replace towels.
The setting and decor is amazing! Wonderful playlist in keeping with the art deco. There is a very nice elevated garden with superb views of the lake. Breakfast was very good with wide choice and restaurant meals too!
The bath is an odd shape to climb into and out in spite of having a grab rail and the shower flow was weak

We love the 1930s cozy grandeur, the glorious sense of isolation after a long motorway journey, the stunning views and most of all the atmosphere.
A child of about 7 called out to us about 1am telling us clearly to “Stop it!” as we were talking and laughing after a lovely meal and drinks in the bar. We were mortified thinking we had woken a family next door and stopped talking immediately. We went to bed and fell asleep and the next morning at check out we apologised to the receptionist for being nosy and asked her to pass on our sentiments to the parents of the young child next door if they hadn’t checked out yet. She informed us that there were no children staying in the hotel that night. To be honest this experience doesn’t bother us, we were a bit discombobulated to learn we had heard a ghostly voice - neither of us have ever experienced anything like this before (it was so “ordinary” when it occurred) but we’ll still be back. It’s just that this is the space to tell the tale.
We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful B&B. From the moment we arrived, everything felt peaceful, welcoming and wonderfully relaxing. It’s the perfect place to escape, unwind and take in the incredible surroundings.
The highlight, though, has to be the food, absolutely out of this world! Every meal was delicious, beautifully prepared and clearly made with real care and attention to detail. A real Lake District gem!
Nothing at all.
Nothing! Didn’t stay!
Everything! Building looked rundown on outside and in need of investment inside. There was a very musty smell throughout. It gave the impression of being an institution (not in a good way) - dark and dingey. Reception staff not the cheeriest on arrival. No offer to help with luggage up to our second floor room - not that we needed it but the offer would have been nice. They did not seem too bothered when we informed that after only an hour in the building (most of it spent searching for new accommodation!) we were leaving. They seemed pleased at telling us our room rate was non- refundable. A simple request to have a bottle of fizz in our room (made a couple of days beforehand) was not carried out. It did appear after I requested it again but the surprise element was truly lost. The stairs leading to the upper floors and doors leading into them gave off hostel vibes. Dark and creeky.
It certainly wasn’t the place for us to stay. Not that I think we are snobby in any way but it felt unclean, run down with no atmosphere and way over priced. I’m so surprised by the 5 star reviews and feel that maybe some of the promotional photos on Booking.com have been enhanced. Unfortunately, we did not take our own photos as time was taken up searching for other accommodation.

Views and location are amazing
The hotel is tired and the rooms of average standard. Service is not what you would expect from a hotel at this price point. Breakfast was very disappointed.
Great location, quirky rooms, food excellent
Our room had windows above where staff went to get supplies, smoke and visit. It was a little loud at times. There was also a gutter or some other water moving pipe that was very. loud, especially through the night.
Very charming hotel in a beautiful and very quiet location. Nice food and very friendly staff.
