Mooie ruime kamer, prima locatie
Room large and good bathroom with a bathtub
We went for a birthday break. We wanted a nice hotel , to eat a dinner in same hotel and a few drinks.
Room fine Bar and restaurant staffed by two members of staff, totally overwhelmed by amount of customers and food was overcooked, tepid, medium rare steak was well done. We did complain and felt complaint was dealt with politely but replacement meal was served after other person finished their dinner and with stone cold veg. Not quite the celebration we hoped for.
Maybe stay in hotel , eat elsewhere.
Good central location. Parking was free and on site.
Food was not good. I had pizza on first night and it was not good at all. I cancelled future meals and had breakfast else where.
Super friendly staff , we had a very large room, super king size bed, and it was spotlessly clean. Dinner was great value for money had a 40% off mains voucher, the included full breakfast cooked to orders was top quality too.
No aircon in room, but a good fan was supplied.
AWFUL, would never stay again. Room was sweltering hot with no air con, had to leave and travel home early hours (cutting short a trip) as it was unbearable

Staff dismissive rude and arrogant
Toiletries were far from ‘white company’
Dated
Boiling hot and stuffy throughout the property
Loud all through the night
Whole place could do with a deep clean and refurb… or knocking down!!
Great central location. Clean and had all we needed.
Weather was superwarm. So rooms were very hot. Fans were rather noisy and did not yield much breeze.
A. Lovely, comfy room and great food.
Handy to town centre and train.
Could do with some air conditioning...too hot. And then with windows open too noisy .
The location great as right in town great facilities nice bathroom nice staff
It was ok
A new toilet. And some real ale
Lovely room, huge comfy bed. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Nothing
This is a particularly charming hotel. If you long for the opposite of generic corporate, this hotel will meet your desires. Eccentric decor in an 800-year-old building with 20' ancient beams spanning your bedroom ceiling. No room numbers - elephant names! I stayed in the Babar room beside the Celeste room and across from the Flora room. The hotel is located on a pedestrian plaza in the heart of old Newbury.. There is an equally charming bar and restaurant on the ground floor. I was told there were 63 elephants in those rooms alone!
The 2nd and 3rd floor rooms only had stair access but the kind staff generously hauled my heavy suitcase up and down. Also, I never found an in-house phone in my room. No biggie, but unusual.
