position in penzance
We were on the top floor for three nights, Housekeeping never made it to our room at all.
Location and proximity to town centre
Nothing
We booked a twin sea view room and when we arrived, we were put into a family room with the furthest thing from a sea view! Very disappointing! The TV in room did not work. There was no hairdryer. We didn't even have teaspoons to make our tea and coffee. Breakfast was below average and my mum hadn't even finished her cereal before they brought the hot food out.
Room was comfortable and, while old, the hotel tried to make it as presentable as possible. Water pressure was good too and plenty of power sockets. Love the sea (and St. Michael's Mount) view. The staff was super helpful and informative, very knowledgeable about the places to see and visit, as well as the history of the hotel. We love that it has photos and information about historic events occurring in the hotel. It felt like being in a museum, which is a plus for history and culture lovers. Very good breakfast options and service. And we appreciate the consideration, i.e. late checkout, leaving our luggage at reception while we went around shopping at high street. Great that they have hair dryer, lots of pillows, and really good towels.
Fair warning that, since this is a listed building, please don't expect any lift. Parts of the stairs are quite narrow and carpet needs replacing. At the top of the second floor, the landing was so narrow that it would be best to be careful opening the door at the top. A couple of bedside lamps didn't work.
The old history of the place and it's location right in the heart of Penzance .all the amazing events that had been held there over the years it's historic significance .and the paraphernalia everywhere was fascinating .
It was a little chaotic due to lack of staff but we are very easy going travellers so it amused us rather than put us off .maybe someone else might have been less than impressed but we had Alot of fun there and when we did eventually get our breakfast the next morning it was lovely .well worth the wait ...we were on holiday and had no time table but it could have been a tad stressful if you did .
Lovely hotel ideally situated, very clean throughout would definitely stay there again
