This was good for one night but I would not come again.
Pros:

What we liked the most was the live music in the evening at the bar. Although space was limited.

Cons:

I am so disappointed in this hotel and the restaurant. I read the reviews and they were mostly positive but I seriously do not know how we could have such a negative experience. The room did look newly renovated however the side tables were so small they would not hold more than a cell phone and pair of glass. But the worst part was the mattress. I think it was not included in the renovation and showed its age and lack of support. Also though not a huge problem they only have street parking so when we got there late in the evening all the close parking was gone. It worked out we just had to lug our bags further. We ended up eating dinner at the restaurant. Service at restaurant was not good and neither was the food, except for the Asian beef starter. I ordered the lamb as a main dish and It was the only time in 7 years living overseas I sent the food back. We also had the breakfast in the morning and it was just ok. I think they tried to have interesting items however their flavor parings just wasn’t cohesive. For example I had the toastie with ham cheese, and onion jam on brown bread. The flavors just didn’t go together.

Pros:

Staff where amazingly friendly, decor was warm and homely, exceptional food. Great atmosphere.

Cons:

The noise of the external fans outside room 204 was somewhat a nuisance, the double bed mattress was uneven and not supportive, somewhat tired I think and needs renewed.

Another brilliant stay
Pros:

We booked the family room for a little extra space and it was exceptional, comfy beds and great bathroom. Dinner was amazing and we were well looked after by Connor not just at dinner but throughout the whole weekend, the man is a credit to the hotel. In fact all the staff who we came in contact with were amazing. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough as this was our 3rd stay in 6 weeks. Looking forward to going back.

A wonderful stay
Pros:

Excellent staff! Brilliant attitude. So friendly and professional - great combination!
Breakfast and dinner were both top class. Extremely clean throughout.

The hotel served it's purpose.
Pros:

I liked the location, the employees the bar and the dining room. The food was excellent - as was the Guinness!

Cons:

Very limited parking outside (no carpark). My room smelled of stale tobacco. It was pretty basic. I did not realise that I'd have to request housekeeping! I get that some guests might NOT want their rooms refreshed. But a policy of 'if you don't ask - you won't get' is a bit of an oddity. Finally, if there is live music in the bar, please turn the TV off - it is a distraction and disrespectful to the artist.

Another exceptional stay
Pros:

Another great stay at the Hillyard, service is excellent especially the girls who were on breakfast service Saturday and Sunday. Room great, bed comfortable and immaculate bathroom which has my favourite shower. Dinner at hotel was again excellent but the cheesecake was one of the best desserts I have ever had. Singer on Saturday evening entertainment was very good and hope she is back again when we are there.
Booked again for 2 weeks time!

hotel to very high standard, staff friendly and extremely helpful ,didn't dine in restaurant, but it fellow travellers were more than happy with experience, would stay again if visiting area

Weekend break
Pros:

Good size rooms with excellent a/c
Staff very welcoming and helpful re info etc. Breakfast menu top class. Location near everything.

Reception one girl working to accommodate guests and answer phone bookings
