Attractive, clean and efficient. Excellent range of facilities. Straightforward and thorough check-in arrangements.
Sometimes felt a little ‘soulless’ - heavy reliance on technology throughout detracted from the warmth of the welcome extended.

Staff were excellent especially our room attendant Jackie who went above and beyond for some requests we had. She was extremely helpful and friendly.

Nice decor, good ambience. Personally, I didn’t eat there, but people seemed to be enjoying themselves, and there was obvious rapport with some staff. Good size room, fittings, etc. Nice bright bathroom.
Brad, the Supervisor/Manager in the evening was a delightfully helpful young guy - he’ll go far. As was the lady with the blonde hair working there the next day; kind, thoughtful, and made me the best Earl Grey I think I’ve had! One or the domestic staff was also lovely and genuine; there are good people in the world! And at The Merlin!
Whilst the bar area was very well lit and created an inviting atmosphere, I couldn’t really say the same for my room which was a bit dingy/dim. Not unlike the young women who checked me in and latterly served me at the bar. Not only was she unable to clearly explain where the smoking area was; (“straight down and out of the door” would have sufficed), she said nothing other than look awkward when I asked about the stairs, my bags (I had a few) and made a quip about my (actual) broken back not thanking me for it! I didn’t say it really expecting anything in hindsight, but her response (or lack thereof) left me in no doubt how she felt about the guests paying her wages. Or perhaps it was just me! Latterly, when ordering a Ginger Beer, I saw there were two or three and asked if any were sugar free. “I don’t know.” Came the reply. Which was fair enough, I clearly didn’t know, but rather than, perhaps, oh I don’t know, use ‘initiative’ and look at the label, I waited incredulously for a few seconds before I had to ask HER. I genuinely couldn’t work out if it was ignorance, utter disdain, or lack of brain plasticity, but the manger/supervisor (Brad - great guy, personable, helpful, couldn’t have done enough) stepped in and sorted it out. I had a feeling that wasn’t the first time he’d had to do that. But. Credit where credit’s due; a new member of staff must have just started and she was very enthusiastic about “showing him how to do the bins.” I guess one likes a dirty bar.
Well appointed accommodation, excellent food.

Upstairs corridor and doors of the premises could do with a paint refresh and I found the room decor rather dark.
