The historical ambiance of the village and the well maintained buildings. Very friendly staff. Comfortable cottage.

Staff
Not clean but understandable for such a huge place
The room at the front with balcony is a real vintage throwback to a gentler era. It's a crossover of antique furniture and fittings, and modern high pressure hot water showers and WiFi. The breakfast is exquisite. Dinner is somewhat traditional and limited in choice.
The drainage in the bathroom could be improved, and the shower could be cleaner, but I'm nitpicking. The place is over 100 years old.
The breakfas was phenominal! Exeed our expatation
Nothing can be made beter. It is aldreadey exceptional
Location. History
Becoming toooo frayed….
Incredible sense of history, very interesting town, great red bus tour, great breakfasts.
Hotel decor a bit tired, no offer to assist taking suitcases upstairs to the room.
Amazing atmosphere and charm, Friendly and efficient staff and comfortable rooms
Restaurant service is patchy and the food is ok
It's just very special, almost like time traveling. Everyone was friendly, everything was in walking distance. W totally enjoyed it.
The shower in my husband's room war merely dripping.
A place with lots of history. Felt if we’ve stepped back in time. Beautiful old furniture. Rooms are comfortable. Very good dinner and breakfast and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Difficult for older people to shower. You have to get into a bath to shower. We had no hot water.
Reception was efficient and staff were pleasant.
It would have been a special touch if someone had been ready with an umbrella as it was raining when we arrived.
All the staff coped well under the stress of no electricity.
The dinner and breakfast were both of good quality and quantity. The room was clean and well appointed.
Perhaps a porter to assist carrying bags up and down stairs. We shouldn't have to ask for one.
Although the hotel has character, I noticed that it is starting show a little bit of wear and tear.
The bathroom door in our room (12) could not be shut.
Pity the bar closes at the same time as the dining room but I suppose staff logistics is an issue.
The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast very good. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Hotel looks neglected. Furniture old and not well maintained. Hotel needs a lot of tlc.
Absolutely gorgeous, historic building with a slightly “haunted” vibe. The grounds are massive with a beautiful garden and an inviting pool. The staff are lovely and helpful.
As with old buildings, there’s a bit of wear and tear that can be taken care of. I was there in winter and the heater in the room is not sufficient. An electric blanket would have been great. Dining options for vegetarians are limited.
It was a whole experience and the beds were very comfortable.
The plumbing wasn’t good. The toilet and tap leaked noisily all night.
We were upgraded and spent a comfortable night. The meals were awesome! The 5 minute bus ride around the town was great fun! Nice warm fires in the dining room and pub. Would recommend a stay here - historical!
The town is looking a little neglected, some buildings need repair. Museum cars need some upkeep. Our room's floors creaked but we understand that it is due to age.
