Excellent location in the heart of Matera’s Sassi
The hotel enjoys an excellent location in the heart of Matera’s historic Sassi, making it a wonderful base for exploring this extraordinary city.
We left our car in a covered parking facility recommended by the hotel, which was clean, secure, and well maintained. This was a particularly important aspect of our stay, especially when traveling around Italy by car with luggage.
Having seen several videos of thefts involving luggage and personal belongings left inside vehicles, and having noticed quite a few cars in Rome equipped with old-fashioned steering wheel locks — just like the ones we used in Brazil back in the 1990s! — we truly appreciated the peace of mind that a reliable parking facility provided.

Beautiful design and exceptional location, but deeply disappointing service
Il Palazzotto enjoys an excellent location in the heart of Matera’s historic Sassi. The property is absolutely beautiful, with a contemporary, distinctive design that brilliantly captures the spirit and authenticity of the Sassi while creating a unique architectural experience.
We also appreciated the covered parking facility recommended by the hotel. It was clean, secure, and well maintained — a particularly valuable feature when traveling around Italy by car with luggage.
Unfortunately, our experience was seriously compromised by a complete lack of hot water in the shower on the morning of our departure.
What made the situation even more disappointing was the hotel's response — or rather, the complete absence of one. Despite contacting the emergency assistance service, nobody got back to us. There was no apology, no explanation, no offer of compensation, and absolutely no effort to acknowledge or address the inconvenience.
For a property positioning itself in this category, such a lack of attention to guests is simply unacceptable.
Beautiful architecture and an exceptional location cannot compensate for poor hospitality and a complete lack of service recovery.
A truly disappointing ending to what could otherwise have been a wonderful stay.

My wife and I have traveled a lot in Italy over the years. We thought it was a compelling city and the hotel's accommodations were on-point and met our standards (which are not Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton-level but high nonetheless). Location was very good. Breakfast was pretty good as well - suited our needs in an overnight stay (1 night only). We also liked the fact that the hotel was affiliated with a local winery as well. The wines we had - both bianco and rosso - were very good. The staff was very helpful, in terms of navigating minor issues (hot water, transportation, navigating the city).
Not much actually... There was a miscommunication or misunderstanding when we arrived. We thought our room was not ready yet upon arrival and check-in (which is not that uncommon in Italy, in general). Turned out, as the staff changed over at the front desk, that the room had been ready the whole time. Minor item. We appreciate the complimentary wines while we waited. Other than that, I'd suggest that the breakfast offering could be upgraded just a little. More vegetables, greens and perhaps more protein options (smoked salmon) and eggs prepared in a number of different ways - aside from scrambled.

The overall look and vibe of the hotel and room are incredible. The location couldn’t be better!! The room features 3 balconies, each with unreal views of the heart of Matera. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff/receptionist was so helpful, when we checked in she provided us with a map of the area (google maps is unreliable in Matera) where she highlighted routes and walks to maximize our sightseeing, she also recommended some incredible places for dinner. The bedding was very comfortable.
The toilet and shower feel poorly placed. The hotel kindly provide bottled water for free, but only provide 1 small bottle of still water in the fridge, and with reception closing at 8pm, we found we didn’t have water for the evening (shops in centre of town aren’t open late)

Śniadanie skromne jak na hotel 4*, jajecznica twarda, jajka gotowane zimne. W pokoju bardzo wilgotno, pościel wilgotna, pomimo odświeżaczy czuć zapach wilgotnego, niewietrzonego pomieszczenia.

El hotel está muy bien ubicado, los cuartos son muy lindos parece que estás en una cueva cool. Tene en cuenta que el baño es abierto. El desayuno está bien, el lugar donde lo tomas es muy lindo. Si vuelvo a Matera lo volvería a elegir sin dudar. El servicio de transfer porque no podes subir con el auto es excelente!
Oh my goodness, we LOVED our stay at Il Palazzotto. Our suite (suite 3) took our breath away. Located a few metres away from where the taxi drops you off (a huge bonus given that some hotels are a steep climb up many steps!) Staff were excellent and so helpful in arranging taxis. Great breakfast served in beautiful surroundings. Right in the heart of Matera and very close to many restaurants.
