Rainforest Nest

Das Guesthouse liegt in der Nähe des Eingangs zum Sinharaja Regenwald mitten in der Natur. Der Blick von unserer Terrasse war wunderschön. Auch hier konnte man bereits viele Tiere beobachten. Das Zimmer war sauber und hell und das Bett war bequem.
Die Gastgeber Saman und Umesha sind sehr nette, gut gelaunte und großzügige Menschen durch die der Aufenthalt dort zu etwas Besonderem wurde. Umesha kümmert sich um die Gäste, versorgt sie mit leckerem Essen und Eiscreme und hat sogar unsere Schuhe nach den Wanderungen gewaschen. Und wer Naturliebhaber ist sollte unbedingt eine Tour durch den Regenwald mit Saman machen. Er hat überall gesucht und hat auch die kleinsten Tierchen für uns gefunden. Wir hatten viel Spaß. Auch die Nachtwanderung können wir wirklich empfehlen. Wir hatten garnicht bemerkt wie spät es schon war, so spannend war es.
Wir hatten zwei Nächte gebucht und wären gerne länger geblieben. Vielen Dank für alles!

The place is so peaceful and beautiful! You can enjoy breathtaking views from your bed or balcony, go for a walk, and immerse yourself in nature… it’s simply magical.

Eine super Unterkunft.

Wir wurden sehr herzlich von unseren Gastgebern Saman und Umesha empfangen. Saman hat auch die Abholung vom Flughafen Colombo organisiert. Das hat wunderbar geklappt. Auch unsere besonderen Bedürfnisse (glutenfreies Essen) wurden voll berücksichtigt und alle Sonderwünsche die wir hatten wurden erfüllt.

Sowohl die Nachttour bei der die nachtaktiven Krabbeltiere erkundet wurden, wie auch am Folgetag die Tagestour wurden von Saman selbst geführt. Er hat mit sehr viel Enthusiasmus und Einsatz uns die Natur des Sinaraja Waldes näher gebracht.

Wir würden diese Unterkunft jedem weiterempfehlen der naturnah wohnen und die Ursprünglichkeit dieser Gegend erleben möchte.

Wir wurden super herzlich von Saman und Umesha empfangen und über die gesamte Zeit versorgt.
Umesha hat für uns sehr lecker gekocht und auch besondere Wünsche (Egg Hoppers ;)) erfüllt. Ein Traum!
Saman hat mit uns sehr engagiert eine Nachttour gemacht, bei der wir bereits viele Tiere sehen konnten und am folgenden Tag uns voller Freude den Regenwald mit seiner Flora & Fauna gezeigt.
Er war sehr bedacht, professionell & engagiert.
Witzigerweise hat er für uns bessere Fotos mit unserer Kamera machen können als wir selbst ;). Also auch noch ein Top Fotograf!

Die Unterkunft mit den kleinen Cabines war super gemütlich und wir wollten garnicht mehr weg!

De gastvrijheid en vriendelijkheid van Saman en zijn vrouw is ongelofelijk. De maaltijden heerlijk en Saman zijn kennis over het regenwoud is geweldig. Het uitzocht van de huisjes over de rijstvelden is heerlijk

I spent two nights at Rainforest Nest, and it was undoubtedly one of the most peaceful and memorable experiences of my trip.
This place is absolutely beautiful because it still feels untouched by mass tourism. There are very few visitors, the rainforest is vibrant and powerful, and the only sounds you hear are those of nature. It is the perfect place to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with yourself.
As a solo traveller who particularly enjoys peace, quiet, and moments of solitude, I deeply appreciated the sensitivity and kindness of the owners. They immediately understood that I enjoyed spending time on my own. They were always present, attentive, and reassuring, yet never intrusive.
Whenever I was sitting on the terrace admiring the view, they would often bring me a fresh fruit juice or a small snack without me even asking. These little gestures touched me deeply because they felt sincere, spontaneous, and completely free of any hidden interest.
They helped me organize everything I needed: meals, excursions, and transportation, always with great kindness and generosity.
I also joined two excursions with them, one during the day and one at night. Both were wonderful, but I personally preferred the night excursion, which was absolutely unforgettable. We were able to observe many animals and experience the rainforest in a completely different atmosphere.
I would like to sincerely thank the owners for their exceptional hospitality. I keep a very special thought for the owner's wife, whose kindness, warmth, and many thoughtful attentions truly touched me. It is rare to meet people who are so naturally caring and considerate.
The accommodation itself is also very comfortable: a spacious room, an enormous bed, a private terrace with a magnificent view of the forest, a private bathroom, air conditioning, a fan… everything you need to feel perfectly comfortable and fully enjoy this exceptional environment.

De kamer ziet er exact uit zoals op de foto’s en was kraaknet. De ligging is perfect voor een bezoek aan het Sinharaja-regenwoud. Er zijn geen winkels of restaurants op wandelafstand, maar dat heb je ook niet nodig. De gastheer en gastvrouw zorgen ervoor dat je niets tekortkomt.

Het eten was heerlijk en kraakvers. De rijst komt van hun eigen rijstveld, het fruit is vers en de egg curry was zo lekker dat zelfs onze dochter van tien, een moeilijke eter, ervan smulde. Ook het ontbijt was top, met toast, een gebakken ei, een heerlijke Sri Lankaanse kokospannenkoek, vers avocadosap en fruit. Flessen water zijn onbeperkt beschikbaar.

De eigenaars wonen zelf op het domein en dat voel je. Je wordt ontvangen alsof je bij familie op bezoek bent.

Het absolute hoogtepunt was de vier uur durende wandeling door het regenwoud met eigenaar Saman. Zijn kennis is indrukwekkend. Hij zag dieren die wij zonder hem nooit hadden opgemerkt: piepkleine uiltjes, slangen, apen… Hij zorgde ook voor bescherming tegen bloedzuigers en had zelfs regenjassen voor ons klaar. Aan alles was gedacht.

Ik kan werkelijk geen minpunt bedenken. Voor ons had dit de beste prijs-kwaliteitverhouding van de hele reis. We waren graag nog langer gebleven. 10/10.

Saman and Umesha are warm and welcoming … they helped us feel immediately at home. The rooms were clean and had ample space for a family of four. The surrounding area is so relaxing, a true break from the everyday life back home. Saman is an excellent tour guide and a great animal and bird spotter. He explained everything so well to us. Umesha’s freshly prepared breakfast and dinner were really good. We highly recommend them and their stay. Thank you so much dear Saman and Umesha.

Our stay at Rainforest Nest was one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such genuine warmth that we truly felt less like guests and more like part of the family. The kindness and generosity shown by everyone were extraordinary. When I became unwell during our stay, they helped take us to the pharmacy, made sure I got the medication I needed, and even prepared homemade soup for me. Their care and compassion turned what could have been a difficult experience into one where we felt completely looked after. It is something we will never forget. A special mention must go to Saman, whose guiding skills are simply outstanding. His ability to spot wildlife in the Sinharaja Rainforest is incredible. We would have walked straight past so many fascinating animals and birds without him. His knowledge of the rainforest, patience, and sharp eye made every walk exciting, and thanks to him we saw an amazing variety of wildlife that we would never have found on our own. The accommodation itself is peaceful, comfortable, and perfectly located for exploring Sinharaja. Waking up surrounded by nature and enjoying delicious home-cooked meals made the experience even more special. If you are looking for more than just a place to stay—if you want genuine Sri Lankan hospitality, exceptional guiding, and to feel truly cared for—I cannot recommend Rainforest Nest highly enough. Thank you to the whole family for making us feel so welcome. We hope to return one day.

Very nice bungalow in the middle of the rainforest. Vue is juste Wow ! Saman and his wife are lovely and he is a very nice guide to visit the forest. A very nice stop !

Het prachtige uitzicht, de mooie en comfortabele kamers en de geweldige lieve mensen die het Rainforest Nest runnen. Niets is hun te veel en alles gaat gepaard met een grote lach. Geweldige leuke tour in het regenwoud gedaan.

Mehr Gastfreundschaft geht nicht. Umesha zauberte uns super leckere authentische Mahlzeiten, nach unserer Regenwaldtour hat sie noch unsere schmutzigen Trekkingschuhe blitzblank geputzt. Sie ist eine Seele von Mensch. Saman ist ein exzellenter Guide, nichts entgeht seinem scharfen Blick, ohne ihn hätten wir nur Bäume gesehen 😀 So ein liebenswertes Paar! Die Unterkunft selbst war eine Klasse für sich. Liebevoll eingerichtet, toller Blick ins Grüne und auf Reisfelder. Der Eingang zum Regenwald ist nur ein Katzensprung entfernt. Insgesamt können wir sagen, wir hatten den Jackpot

Wat een fantastische plek! Het wordt gerund door een ontzettend lieve en gastvrije familie, de huisjes zijn prachtig, midden in de natuur en mega schoon, het uitzicht op het terras is heel mooi, het eten was heerlijk en de jungle tour overtrof onze verwachtingen. Ik zou dit iedereen aanraden! Bedankt Rainforest Nest!

Emplacement magique, les hôtes sont vraiment très agréables et feront tout pour vous aider pour tout.

The location was excellent for day and night hikes in and around the forest.
Saman and Umesha are wonderful hosts, very kind, thoughtful and hugely knowledgable about the area.

We did a night hike and Saman showed us snakes, lizards, scorpion, frogs and other insects and bugs.

The following day am we did a wonderful walk to the waterfall for a scenic swim, exploring the rai forest on our way, this time seeing more snakes, millipedes, monkeys and an owl.

We went with our 10 year old sons and it was wonderful for young and old!

Umesha is the most wonderful cook and provides the most delicious meals for all to enjoy.

I could not recommend Rainforest Nest high enough.
