An old hotel
Pros:

Bed was quite nice & comfy & nice towels.

Cons:

Didn’t get the room we booked with a balcony. Got a very small back room. It’s not what is advertised on their website. No restaurant, bar, breakfast. One local store which closes at 5pm. It’s more like a backpackers with shared kitchen, lounge & dining area. Booking.com need to make it clear what the old hotel is. The owner was not interested in our comments as getting lots of road workers staying.

Not how it use to be.
Pros:

Location and close to the hospital where my daughter gave birth.

Cons:

The fact the website says bar is open and it isnt...Seriously you own a place like this..SERIOUSLY PUT THE MONEY INTO WHAT IT USE TO BE RATHER THAN A QUICK BUCK.

Kids were looking forward to the hot springs but we had reed the sign at front desk and said risk of infections so wasn't impressed with that

Pros:

The property was clean and tidy with basic utilities. Beds were comfortable and it was great having a heat pump in your room.

Cons:

It was a shame that the website did not have more information about the facilities available. As this accommodation is very remote it would have been great to know that there was a kitchen available for use so that we could have packed food to take. Perhaps maybe a little overpriced for the type of accommodation

Convenient stay to break up a trip to Ruatoria
Pros:

It was available at short notice

Cons:

The pictures gave the illusion there was a bar, I couldn’t find this. We specifically paid more for a room with balcony, but we got an internal room with no balcony.

Lovely rooms & thermal pool
Pros:

Beautiful room, warm, comfy bed and well appointed, with a view. Tony was very accommodating (we were their in winter and it was extremely quiet. Lovely old building. Fantastically warm thermal spring pool to enjoy.

Cons:

As the hotel was very quiet in the off season, the common areas were cold.

Basic but Comfortable
Pros:

The room was comfy, but very basic, nothing extra, and there is no food available except at a local store that seems to close quite early, didn't use the pool. The pub staff were nice

Cons:

If we had known there was no cafe or food available we would have made sure to have some before we arrived, and to find the only local store had already closed by 3pm was a surprise. We were able to use the kitchen but it was huge and hard to find what we wanted.

The hosts are amazing and very accommodating.
Pros:

We requested ground access when we arrived and was given a little hut to sleep in. It is obviously being renovated because the floor boards in the passage where a bit creaky. The showers were beautiful. I don't think the house was ready to be occupied because it was a bit grubby and didn't have the cleaning equipment there for us to do it (i.e. vacuum cleaner, mop etc) We would've been willing to do it but we are just very grateful we had this hut and of course the hot pools are always a bonus.

A very interesting and comfortable stay with generous hosts
Pros:

I liked the age of this old historical wooden hotel, a beautiful old girl with many old fixtures. The bedrooms were small but well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The host was lovely. We arrived late and hungry. We had food with us, and he offered us the free use of the kitchen and dining room. There were few guests and we were allowed free access to the hotel areas. The ancient hot pool was a great experience located in a large outdoor garden area. There were extensive grounds with lovely trees behind the hotel.

Cons:

Bathroom was a shared one but again expected in such an old hotel.
