Loved the palace part with it’s authenticity and the hotel part with it’s modern art museum design 😍 The staff was warm, helpful and professional 👌 I’m so thankful for such unique places and experiences ❤️
Beautiful historical decor and furniture in the older part of the palace. Stunning views from the restaurant terrace including the extensive gardens with ruins.

We chose to stay here over a more local hotel in Faro because of its affiliation with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, so our expectations were understandably quite high. Unfortunately, while the building itself is undeniably beautiful, the overall experience didn’t feel particularly luxurious or personalised.
The palace is stunning, but it’s relatively small and there’s not a great deal to explore. Looking back, I think if we’d wanted to appreciate the palace itself, we would have been just as happy visiting it rather than staying overnight. The guest rooms were surprisingly basic and didn’t reflect the elegance or character of the rest of the property.
Service was pleasant enough, but it never felt like the attentive, personalised service you’d expect from a luxury hotel. Nothing really stood out or felt above and beyond what you’d receive at a standard hotel.
Breakfast was fine, but service could be challenging. There was one member of staff in the dining room who spoke English and was very helpful, but otherwise the language barrier made ordering more difficult than expected. We completely appreciate that we’re in Portugal and don’t expect everyone to speak English, but it did lead to a few mix-ups, including incorrect drinks and difficulty ordering simple requests such as poached eggs instead of scrambled eggs. Trying to explain mistakes was also quite difficult.
The pool area was pleasant but nothing spectacular, and the rooftop terrace felt quite sparse and a little tired. There was a bar by the pool, but it wasn’t open in the mornings, so if we wanted a tea, coffee or even water while relaxing by the pool, we had to go back downstairs to the dining room or main bar ourselves.
Overall, it’s a lovely historic building with plenty of charm, but for a hotel carrying the Small Luxury Hotels of the World name, it didn’t deliver the level of luxury, attention to detail or personalised service we were expecting.
Tout était parfait un grand merci au femmes de chambre pour leur travail propreté 10/10.
Petit déjeuner copieux et varié les produits frais.
