The place is in the jungle, inside the heritage protected forest, and a short drive from the entrance to the archaeological area of Palenque. The hotel has cabins that look like mayan bungalows, but inside they have all the comforts of the best hotel rooms. The forest around the hotel is full of huge trees, flowers, and even black monkeys. They have a great pool, restaurant and bar !!! We loved our stay at MayaBell
The wifi in our bungalow didnt work well, but the wifi inside the lobby and restaurant it was perfect.
Pros-
• Beautiful jungle setting
• Communal areas are well presented
• A small resort
Cons-
• We paid for a deluxe room, and it didn’t feel deluxe, in fact it felt basic
• There was no TV
• The pool was dirty and full of dead insects, leaves, etc. Also, a weird colour - not been cleaned for a LONG time!
• They let the locals come and use the pool, even if they are not staying there. So, one day we went to the pool to find local family playing their music loudly, leaving their rubbish around, being loud in the pool, taking up all the tables. We complained and they quieted down. There was then tension between them and us, dirty looks etc, but these facilities should be reserved for staying guests only - ridiculous! And pretty poor in terms of security too. But as they are a resort with paying guests this should not be happening!
• The staff are attentive because its all about the tips- they even put a suggested amount to tip on your bill!
• We found one of the receptionists (Elisbeth) to be surly and we got the sense she was saying things about us in Spanish to her co-workers as they laughed while looking at us. We complained about her.
• The resort’s one restaurant becomes tiresome after eating there for several days. The food is not good enough or varied enough for a resort. Very average food and overpriced.
• The resort is in the middle of nowhere so apart for the ruins there is nothing else around
• We chose this hotel because it advertised itself as being near the ruins-this is only partially true. Firstly, the entrance is close, but the ticket booth is not-it is 2km back down the road-which they don’t inform you off. So, you must walk to the ticket booth (around a 15-minute walk in the heat), buy your tickets and then get a collectivo (shared van with a return ticket included) to the temple (so it is not walkable from the hotel). Hence, it is not worth staying here if all you are doing is visiting the temple.
• We stayed for a weekend and felt bored-the place felt soulless
It’s in the natural reserve, the access to Palenque Archaeological site is very easy. Even walking distance. The restaurant is nice, the cabins weee perfect and the personnel very nice. Highly recommended for bird watching and people who want to stay close to Palenque site.
Beautiful location, in the jungle close to Palenque ruins. Howler monkeys and toucans all around
Good restaurant.
Some front desk employees, and waitresses were unfriendly.
One of best places ever! We had luxus department in middle of jungle. We enjoyed also the swimming pool a fantastic pizza in the restaurant.
