Fascinating old buildings. First class staff - efficient and effective. First class food and wine.
The hotel is oldie worldly but the facilities are modern, clean and comfortable the staff couldn’t do enough.
And the fresh flowers and plants are stunning.
Potted fresh orchids in the room a great touch
Lovely building in cracking location. Very friendly staff
Very very expensive room. Not worth the £325 for one night. Breakfast was lovely but the room was basic and tired
Amazing hotel,great staff.
Sarah was especially helpful, even showing me the two twin rooms for me to choose from on my next visit.
Thank you Sarah.x
Absolutely nothing.
The hotel is full of character and our room was no exception with its exposed beams and joists.
Not much. It is a little pricey and the toilet over-flowed in the morning! We managed to mop up the overflow and so avoid leakage to the floor below. However, the repair man arrived quite quickly and fixed the problem.
All food was excellent - both quality and service. The room was very small with no coffee/tea facilities other than a delivery of coffee ordered at Reception on arrival.
The room- we do accept we were in a very old building with a certain ancient vibe
Wonderful position in beautiful town. Very friendly staff.
Very small room and uncomfortable bedding.
I loved the old world charm of the hotel. The food was excellent and the service was excellent too, particularly at dinner in the Oak room and at breakfast as well as reception. Atmosphere was really nice - a nice thriving hotel.
I booked a suite which was expensive but i was happy to pay the money for our wedding anniversary. The bed was quite small, and the room was really hot and we could not get the aircon to work so sleep was very difficult - the shower was very weak.! I have been in hotels all over the world but this was the worst shower i have had.
There was a staff member who seemed to be vetting people entering the area to the lounge and bar area. he challenged me to say 'can i help you' as if i was not welcome in that space. I said we were going to our room and he said do i have a key as if he did not believe me.............. not what i expect......He was then very apologetic. Too late.
The whole Hotel ambiance starts at the door and the greeting by the staff when you book in. This is not a modern glass hotel, it has character which opens in nooks and crannies. The Breakfasts are prepared as you order with no buffet. The food is steaming hot and the eggs are that deep yellow / orange and not insipid from a buffet.
The meals are first class and varied, all very enjoyable.
The staff are very approachable.
The tea served at breakfast was too strong. We did mention to the staff and a new pot of tea arrived.
The history of the building and the Oak room restaurant's exceptional old fashioned service.
Bath and shower could do with updating. Heavy bedspread uncomforatble and felt dirty. Upholstery on room chairs could be cleaner.
Tired bedrooms - decor left in the 1980’s.
No safe or fridge or coffee making facilities.
We were kept up all night one night as person next door had tv on all night.
Staff delightful & downstairs is wonderful, but a bit of a time capsule.
