A Hotel to Experience Once
Pros:

Our room was nicely appointed with a good bathroom. The beds were comfortable and we had water placed in the fridge daily. The walk in shower was excellent. The room was small though and rather cramped. The hotel as a whole is huge and there are plenty of lounging areas to just sit and read. The spa and swim facilities are very good and the grounds lovely to walk round (but hilly).

Cons:

The hotel may be 4* but that's because of the facilities. The food in the restaurant is OK with an emphasis on game but overpriced. Its better value in the bar which has a limited menu. Breakfast is buffet self service which should allow a quick turnover of guests but we had to queue for breakfast most mornings, on one occasion for 30 mins. Reason - shortage of staff to clear tables and replenish food. Some of the staff (not the majority) were rather off hand.

Beautiful views but felt stay could have been a lot better.
Pros:

Amazing views and friendly staff. Venue is incredible. Great to have use of the pool and jacuzzi.

Cons:

Bedroom was incredibly hot. Fire alarm went off 3 times in a 3 night stay - all early in the morning. Combination meant sleep was very difficult/interrupted - housekeeping knocked at 8:15am also - earliest I’ve had in a hotel.

We were given wrong information regarding restaurant and bar times. We were told twice that the bar closed at 8:45 even
Pros:

The grounds were amazing and the building is very grand. Breakfast was also very good.

Cons:

When we asked about the EV charging we’re paid the £30 charge which was fine but only after paying we were told it was £30 per charge duration. If it was explained or if there was a sign we would have charged on our 2nd day.

It’s a palace
Pros:

It was cold and rainy and so this was a cozy dream. Sitting by a fire place, having a drink and reading… what’s not to like: the bed and room overalll were very comfortable. The soap and shampoo in the bathroom smelled great.

Cons:

You are out of town. The wait staff at the restaurant seemed disorganized and a bit non-chalant given the prices you are paying to eat at the hotel. Be prepared to wait of you want to eat here. The food, given how much you are paying, is mediocre at best.

Really lovely and hope to come back!
Pros:

Location is beautiful! Staff very friendly and helpful, some exceptional - young lady serving drinks, reception staff and another young lady - didn't get her name but happy to chat. She remembered we were going to the enchanted forest and asked if we'd enjoyed it. Little things like that made it a very pleasant stay. Dinner good if a bit overpriced. Nice breakfast. Lovely lounges and seating areas with cosy fires. Verandah restaurant has amazing views. Loved the museum.

Cons:

That we were only there for one night!

Living on past glory
Pros:

Nice location! Beatuiful surrondings and a nice short stroll to the village! Nice fireplaces to sit at and have a beer or a glas of wine at.

Cons:

The hotell didn't live up to 4 stars and the price. It seemed like they are living of past glory and the fact that it was a " castle".

Our bathroom had a lot of mold in the shower, the toilet was loose and paint was coming of.

The room had wallpaper tearing down, big stains on the carpet and on the headboard.

We got a room in the basement, so no view ( the parkeringlot was outside and had a great view in to our room though). That was ok since we read in the the description " SOME rooms have a view over the forest" so we couldnt complain really.

But since it was a basement it was quite cold and one radiator was dripping every 2 minute or so.

The breakfeast was OK. Not that big of a selection and a bit dirty, some of the plates hade stains on them. A lot of single-serv portions of low quality. Not 4 star quality breakfast. We stayed 2 nigths and the breakfeast changed the second morning wich semed odd.

Some of the staff was nice but most of them weren't that servicemindeed or welcoming.

Mooi hotel met prachtig uitzicht.

Zeer stijlvol ingericht, prachtig uitzicht.

Cons:

Ontbijt viel tegen. Was inclusief, maar gerechten van de kaart waren enkel tegen extra betaling. Prijs-kwaliteit stond niet in verhouding.

Grand but cosy
Pros:

Stayed here as we were attending the Enchanted Forest.
Beautiful views from the restaurant, cosy fires in the main lounges, lots of comfy seating.
Ate in the Stags Head bar for dinner and the food was good to excellent, especially the hamburger.
Breakfast was very good quality, cooked foods hot and replenished regularly.
Swimming pool a hit with the grandchildren, and changing area was good.
Hotel provided an hourly coach for people attending the theatre and the Enchanted Forest, it was free, and pleasant to use as it was drizzling at the time.
Room was spacious and coffee machine excellent.

Cons:

Not the hotel's fault, but an extremely large family group kind of took over lounge seating, and dinner service was slow due to their huge order. It was difficult keeping the young ones entertained while we waited for food for 50 minutes.
Our toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall so we each got pretty grumpy searching for the roll on the floor during overnight loo trips.

Fine building and surrounds. Lots of space. The hotel itself is clearly in need of update and general repairs.

Cons:

The breakfast was very good. Food in the bar was fine and available for a reasonable price, but the noise is high as it is shared with those who want to enjoy only their beer. Food at the restaurant is average and expensive and best to avoid.

Disappointing & expensive & not worth it - I checked out a day early
Pros:

It looks nice but looks can be deceptive

Cons:

The food was very disappointing - on the nights I stayed the bar was closed so you had to eat in the foyer- staff were apathetic - champagne charges for lemonade services - obviously this hotel feels it doesn’t have to try anymore - seems to rely on transient tours - in the years I’ve stayed there it has changed dramatically - it’s no longer the place it was
