Pros:

The hotel is very nice and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars within walking distance. A bonus was the delicious breakfast and the outside “beer garden” across the street. We rented e-bikes close by and rode the bike/walking path to several distilleries. The only complaint the group had was that the bed mattresses were fairly hard.

Great place to stay in Port Ellen
Pros:

This hotel was a great choice to stay while in Port Ellen. Has a lovely view of the water and a nice place to sit outside on tables and just enjoy and relax. Coco, at front desk, was terrific as we did not have a dinner reservation and she worked some magic to get us one upon our arrival. The room amenities were nice and room had information notebook for area in room which was useful. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and option to have hot food was also included. Would stay here again!

Cons:

The windows in our room didn't open fully.

Pros:

Nestled right in the heart of Port Ellen, No. 1 Charlotte Street offers the quintessential Islay experience, perfectly blending historic charm with an inviting, home-away-from-home atmosphere. Housed in a striking 19th-century Victorian building overlooking the gorgeous sweep of Kilnaughton Bay, this boutique bed and breakfast captures the true spirit of the Inner Hebrides.

The rooms here are exceptionally comfortable, cozy, and classic. Retaining wonderful traditional character while offering modern creature comforts, they provide a deeply restful sanctuary after a day spent exploring the coast. Waking up to the peaceful views across the water sets a wonderfully serene tone for the morning.

Mornings begin properly with a high-quality, hearty breakfast that fuels you up for the day ahead, featuring top-tier ingredients served with genuine, friendly hospitality. Downstairs, the property maintains that authentic local feel, featuring a cozy public bar and whisky lounge where you can chat with locals and fellow travelers over a dram.

The location couldn't be better. Situated right by the bay, it sits at the foot of the famous scenic pathway leading directly to the south shore heavyweight, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg distilleries, making it an absolute dream for whisky enthusiasts. Beyond the distilleries, you are just a short stroll from Port Ellen’s local amenities, the ferry terminal, and conveniently positioned for easy access to Islay Airport.

Whether you are walking the malt paths or touring the island, No. 1 Charlotte Street provides an authentic, cozy, and perfectly situated base that makes leaving for home the hardest part of the trip.

Cons:

Loved absolutely everything.

Loved it
Pros:

We stayed at the hotel for three days. It was truly exceptional, one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially Collin, who spoke Spanish. The breakfast was amazing, and the hotel has a bar next door, meaning you can enjoy a wide variety of whiskeys without leaving the hotel. I would definitely book this hotel again, and for a longer stay, as the views and ambiance make you want to stay for more than just a few days.

Cons:

Leaving the place and island
