The staff member who greeted me on arrival at thr pub was friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Easy to find in the middle of Stranraer.
I can't say I enjoyed my stay, for a few reasons. There was a heat wave, and no fan or air conditioning in the room. It was unbearably hot. I know there are very rarely heat waves in Scotland, but would suggest the hotel purchases some fans! The other things I didn't enjoy were the location, in terms of having to enter and check in through a quite depressing pub. As it was a hot day, people were quite drunk and lary when I arrived to check in. Finally, a smaller thing but the shower was so small it was quite hard to not nudge the tap when you turned around. And nobody cleaned and replaced the towels, which I would really have benefitted from.
The room was bright & airy. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a nice clean shower.
The seagulls were a nuisance.
A little gem of a place! Super staff too!!
Handy for everything

Very clean and very friendly and helpful staff
Nothing to say
Spacious rooms in a great location, with restaurants, grocery stores and public transport just a short walk away. The beds were comfortable, everything was spotless, and the staff were incredibly friendly!
There was some street traffic noise, but it quieted down considerably after 11 p.m.
I slept real good, that is the main thing. Also the food at the restaurant was very good. It was very conveniant to get a bus from there to the ferry.
Very clean tidy hotel. Great value for money. Comfortable nights sleep. What more could you ask for. Will definitely be back.
Everything about the stay was lovely no faults with location staff and cleanliness
The shower was the only down side with not a lot of pressure
The staff were great, both for the hotel and the restaurant. Highly recommend making a reservation for dinner, the food was great and the staff were super friendly.
The room was recently renovated and spacious with a spacious ensuite. Check-In was easy and swift.
Great location and value for money if you are catching the ferry.
Parking was on-street, we found a spot without issues but mindful it could be harder during busy times.
Clean tidy, good bar , great meal. Kept informed of all available.
I had trouble walking and didn’t earlier there was 4 flights of stairs. That was my fault not Royal.
Everything was perfect Very clean and comfortable

What a fantastic little find, right on the centre of Stranraer, although not noisy, despite Scotland playing a World Cup game that night with kick off at 11pm. The rooms (5 of them) are on the second floor of the building and have clearly recently been renovated to a high standard. Fresh and modern, spotlessly clean. The room was a good size too as was the shower room.
We were welcomed to the property by a lovely friendly young girl who gave us tips on where to find something to eat as, unfortunately, on the evening of our arrival there was a wedding party going on in the restaurant. Being in the centre of town, it was easy for us to find something to eat: we had a Chinese take away from the restaurant just on the opposite side of the road.
We drove around a few times to find the best place to park as close by all the parking spots are restricted. We did easily find a parking ( unrestricted) spot opposite Morrisons car park entrance but it was about a 4 mins walk to the hotel. Not a problem for us as we’d packed light so only had a bag to carry, but could be an issue if you had lots of luggage you needed to bring to the hotel ( coupled with the fact the rooms are on the second floor and there’s no lift)
We stayed overnight for an early morning ferry crossing to Ireland.
Royal Hotel is one of,if not the cleanest hotels, we’ve stayed in worldwide.
Excellent staff, facilities. Everything you would need for a stopover.
Nothing.
The view of the sea from our window was lovely….the tea/coffee facilities were good & we enjoyed them quite often :)
The shower had very poor pressure which was disappointing!!
Brilliant restaurant, excellent food, helpful and very pleasant staff. Nicely appointrd room, very clean and comfortable.
Quite difficult to find,despite directions.
Great location close to the ferry port. Really lovely friendly staff and clean room with everything you could need.
No lift
