The car park is quite a walk. There are 3 rooms at the top of this old building which should not be used in a heat wave. It was so hot that I felt ill after 2 hours and had to leave at 9pm and drive an hour to my sister's. No one else was staying there.
The staff did not seem to care. The fan/cooler in the room was useless as it requires ice boxes and there weren't any. The room was very hot when I arrived as curtains were open and sun was streaming in. They refused to issue any refund so I disputed this through Visa under 'service not received.
Loved the breakfast and the facilities were good. Staff were nice also
Lack of sport that was advertised and obviously due to the age of the building no onsuite but these are minor quibbles
The place itself was lovely. Old building located in the very centre of the village.
Really approachable staff.
Delicious, well sized breakfast portions.
I am listing only things that the hos have conyrol over.
Poached eggs fully solid.
Pub music till late.
Central to town . Whilst we did not stay once we viewed the facilities I understand the breakfasts are exceptional
We felt the description on booking .com was not as accurate as it might have been . It should have stated No en-suite is available rather than shared bathroom It did not explain the bedrooms were directly above a popular an d possibly crowded outside bar area . It was described as a large bedroom which it was not and the shared bathroom was for three bedrooms but also down a short corridor through a door down a few steps and across a landing . The bathrooms were also cramped .Booking . Com might also have stated that the popular drinking hotel also held live music nights which were on the night we had booked for but we were not advised . I do not blame the hotel it was what it was, however we did feel the lack of facilities and overall standards were not well suited to the price per room . The members of staff we met was pleasant and I think understood why we decided not to stay .
Good value and quality food
Sometimes the sound of the bar can intrude if there is a DQ or karaoke
Great location in the centre of town.
Shared bathroom is not my favourite but there were 2 bathrooms for 3 rooms so wasn’t an issue.
A Lovely Stay! Very comfortable and staff were very accommodating
Parkin was an expensive nightmare. Do not park at Castle car park, cost £20 for a nights stay.
Popular pub with rooms. Good undercover outside seating area.
It wasnt very obvious from the wording on the booking.com listing that it was a shared bathroom.
It was a very clean shower room, but I wouldn't have booked it if I had realised. Note to self: scrutinise the small print!
The beds were poor quality and my husband's bed was very uncomfortable and noisy. It creaked and groaned with every movement. Bad nights sleep.
hotel was situated in the middle of the town.
staff was ok, but did not really have much to do with them
this will sound bad, BUT
the scent plug ins, (everywhere) made me feel sick (what you trying to hide)
the very dusty prams and decor, what's that all about??
the mattress was slopping to one side, so did not get much sleep, had not been turned for years probably.
the tower fan, was making a winning noise so bad I had to turn it off, and I like white noise.
I understand money is tight in every business, the town can't make much money from what I seen,
however even though the hotel, was ok, I think the management needs to have a look at the very dated rooms, yes it's a old building, but that don't mean everything within the building got to be a 100 years old also.
they try and I give them that, but come on it's 2026, not 1980s
Clean rooms, comfortable beds.
Fab breakfast (an opinion obviously shared by many locals given how busy it was at 9:00 on a weekday morning).
Lack of en-suite bathroom not a problem, 2 bathrooms shared between 3 rooms is fine for a short stay, but a basin in the room would be useful.
Everything we needed in one place, great food, great beer and fantastic staff
Very comfortable room. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Shared bathroom.
The room was attractive and the breakfasts were good.
On Friday night loud music from the bar made it impossible to sleep until after 12.30am. On Saturday night, loud music continued till 11.40. The owner was entirely unsympathetic for the loud noise problem endured by myself and the occupant in the room next to mine. On these music nights, the rooms are not suitable for letting.
Lovely old building. Breakfast was really tasty.
Mattress was a little on the solid side for me.
