A country manor in a beautiful location
Pros:

It is a beautiful old building, the downstairs rooms were lovely & grand - the library, drawing room, bar and dining room. The dining room has a spectacular view and the property has a stunning garden. The bathroom in our room was modern and clean. The food in the dining room was amazing, they have a very good chef! The dining staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and there was a lot of choice.

Cons:

The food was amazing but restaurant prices were very expensive. The hot water wasn't working in the morning so we had to have cold showers because apparently 'the boilers had gone out overnight' and we were not offered any compensation for this inconvenience. There were wasps in our room, and our travelling buddies noted mould stain marks on one of their bed pillows. The mattresses were firm, and pillows were foam pillows (not feather), bedlinen was white, but they could have better quality thread count bed linen. We noted the upstairs hallway/passages seemed a bit tired and in need of re-painting.

Comfortable, luxurious, special.
Pros:

I had the best night's sleep I have had in a long time. The bed was perfectly comfortable, the room was a good size, and the bathroom was modern and spotless. The castle is beautiful, very cosy. The bar and lounge were great to spend time in and the view from the restaurant was outstanding. I liked walking in the grounds too.

Cons:

Driving out of the road end is quite hairy, you're aware that cars are driving fast there. I don't know what would help, perhaps signs on the road to warn drivers?
Also - while the staff are very friendly and good at their job - they could be too familar when chatting. And one of them sat in reception while off duty and you could hear their loud conversation in the lounge.

I would definitely recommend a stay here.
Pros:

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size, nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed. The food was very good with a decent selection and the service was quick and efficient. The view from the restaurant over the loch is magnificent. Due to the hotel's location, it was very peaceful and relaxing with some nice walks through the grounds.

Cons:

We had a lovely couple of days with no real criticisms to note.

A dream
Pros:

Truly a beautiful place. The interior design remains respectful to the castle’s history and it feels like a chance to be a guest in a story and not a castle converted to a hotel.
The restaurant is beautiful and the staff we found mostly very friendly and accommodating.
The beautiful surroundings offer a great chance for a morning or evening walk in the forest or gardens.

Cons:

Unfortunately there was some dust in many corners of the room, under the bath and around the curtains

A lovely and comfortable stay, with friendly staff, excellent food and absolutely stunning views
Pros:

We stayed at Stonefield for one night as a stopover before travelling on to Islay, and really enjoyed our stay.

It’s a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit.

We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening and breakfast the following morning, and both were lovely. One of the real highlights has to be the exceptional view from the restaurant, a wonderful backdrop while enjoying a meal.

A very enjoyable stay and a perfect stopover before continuing our journey to Islay. We would happily stay again.

Beautiful Location
Pros:

Beautiful location and excellent breakfast
The location was absolutely amazing, right next to the loch, with beautiful grounds and lovely walking paths. The scenery was spectacular and really made our stay special.
Breakfast was superb, with plenty of choice and everything feeling fresh. There was a great selection of continental options, including lovely fresh mini croissants. The coffee was also excellent, and the shower was powerful and much appreciated.
The reception staff were outstanding — polite, friendly and, most importantly, extremely professional. When we raised an issue with the towels, they dealt with it quickly and replaced them without any fuss.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the room was extremely dusty, with noticeable layers of dust around the lamps, which was disappointing for a four-star hotel,a lot of dark long hair everywhere.
The towels provided were also dirty initially, although, as mentioned, reception staff resolved this very quickly.
Dinner was probably the biggest disappointment. The menu sounded very promising, but unfortunately the food didn't quite deliver. For a four-star hotel, we expected a little more finesse, particularly when it came to the flavours. It was perfectly okay, but not something that would make us rush back specifically for dinner.
