Logis des Remparts – A Charming Retreat with Room for Improvement on Accessibility
Nestled in the heart of Saint-Émilion, Logis des Remparts is a truly special place. The beautiful garden creates a peaceful retreat atmosphere, and the medieval setting adds tremendous charm and character. During the summer heatwave ("canicule"), the property proved remarkably well adapted, offering a cool and comfortable refuge when temperatures soared.
The staff were generally excellent. The cleaning team deserves a special mention: always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Parking was also convenient and easy, which is a real asset in Saint-Émilion.
However, while the hotel excels in charm and atmosphere, it falls short when it comes to accessibility and inclusive design. At 1.65 m tall, I could not reach the makeup mirror in the bathroom. The bathtub in the Suite is unusually high and difficult to access safely. The swimming pool was an even greater challenge: getting in and out without assistance was nearly impossible.
Rating: 4/5 – Beautiful setting, excellent housekeeping, and a true retreat experience, but accessibility and guest safety deserve greater attention.
Unfortunately, I fell while getting out of the pool on my first day. What disappointed me most was not the accident itself, but the response from the evening staff. The attitude felt very much like, "We can notify management if you'd like, but nothing will change." A bit more concern and a stronger commitment to guest safety would have been appreciated.
Overall, Logis des Remparts is a wonderful place for those seeking tranquility, beauty, and a unique historical atmosphere. However, travelers who are shorter, older, less mobile, or simply not particularly athletic should be aware that some of the facilities appear designed with tall and fit guests in mind. With a few thoughtful adjustments, this charming hotel could become much more welcoming to everyone.
This is a gem of a hotel in an incredible location within St Emilion. We drove into the city in awe at the beauty of the cobbled streets and breath-taking buildings in this UNESCO heritage site. The hotel was easy to find using the map and we pulled into a nearby on-road parking space to unload and check in. From here they directed us to the small car park at the rear of the property and then helped us check in. We were able to leave our bags and head out to explore before heading off to a nearby Vineyard tour. Highlights included The Maison Du Vin, Roy's Tower and the tour of the Subterranean church. The hotel was beautifully decorated and had a lovely outdoor pool with loungers and shade if required. The room was comfortable and provided a fabulous base for us to explore the city with ease. It was also an easy walk to the main square where we could watch the France v Morocco game in the 2026 World Cup Quarter finals as well as have a lovely meal and some of the beautiful wine the region is known for. In all an unforgettable visit to an incredible heritage site topped off by a brilliant stay in this outstanding hotel.
Being English . . . I would really have liked some tea/coffee making facilities in the room. I travel with teabags but a kettle and some milk to make an early morning cup of tea would have given this hotel a perfect 10 from me.
Super Lage. Tolles Familienzimmet
Die Auswahl beim Frühstück war etwas klein.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Nothing and all was excellent
The pool is wonderful
The bathroom needs updating to a proper shower
Location was good
One of the very few places to have a pool
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Went when there was a heat wave so aircon struggled during the night
Super lokalisering.
Gratis parkering når ledig plass (pass opp for trang innkjøring).
Litt for mye støy fra air-condition.
Piscine et climatisation très appréciables en période de canicule. L'hotel est très bien placé pour visiter à pied St Emilion.
The room was lovely and given the heatwave the aircon worked well. Beds comfortable, pool area and breakfast area were lovely. Fellow who checked us in was great, SO helpful.
Asked to stay in room for an extra hour to check out at midday instead of 11am. Our train to Paris had been cancelled due to the heatwave and we had to book a very late flight from Bordeaux so that extra hour would have made a big difference to our day. I haven't asked this of a hotel for years. It was a flat no with a "oh but we will store your bags for an hour if you like" as if that was a huge benefit. Frankly I think most hotels would store bags for guests!
Breakfast very poor
