Great location and friendly helpful receptionist as always. A lovely hotel overall. Thank you
Location
Needs a refurb
Central location, clean with attentive staff
The sash window in the bathroom could not be opened. The sash window in the bedroom was very heavy to open a lady would find it impossible to. The sign to the car park does not say Golden Lion which makes it difficult to spot.
We went to see the Haley Sisters playing at the hotel on Sunday night. We live in Cumbria so needed to stay over. Had a lovely evening with family and their friends, the Haley's were brilliant as ever, the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a nice breakfast did a little shopping in Northallerton then came home via the Dales, Ribble Head Viaduct and White Scar Cave.
A landlord from a pub in the town and friends talking loudly when they should have been listening, I think it is called giving a bit of order, a quiet word with the bar man sorted that, well done him.
Access to the rooms was a challenge. Very steep and shallow stairs-so take if you have mobility issues
only that it was in city centrte
Unfortunately, my experience at Golden Lion Hotel Northallerton was quite disappointing, especially considering the price we paid.
Firstly, the room was far too small for the price, and there were barely any basic amenities provided. There was no complimentary drinking water and no tea or coffee sachets in the room, which I would normally expect as a basic standard in a hotel at this price point.
The pedestal fan provided in the room was extremely noisy, which made it difficult to have a comfortable and peaceful night’s sleep.
Another issue was the breakfast information. When I arrived, i was told that breakfast was not included in our booking and were informed that breakfast is only included when guests book the room directly upon arrival. This was very confusing and did not make much sense, particularly if the same room and booking conditions are being offered differently depending on how the reservation is made.
Overall, I feel the price was unreasonable for the size of the room, the lack of basic amenities and the overall experience. Unfortunately, I would not consider this hotel good value for money and would expect much better facilities and service for the price.
Central location and cleanliness
Very helpful and friendly staff
Dated decor and furniture in the bedroom and the bathroom
Central Location on the High Street, good for shops and services like bus/ train. Train Station only a 15min walk. Bar / Food was ideal with plenty to choose from.
Rooms were sweating. Old building with likely an older style heating system would be braw and cosy in winter, not good for a heatwave. Fan was provided in the room and high street wad quiet enough to have the windows open through the night.
Great location and parking. Breakfast was ok on both days. Room clean and comfortable.
Staff were lovely and friendly.
My only issue is the lack of handrails on the upper stairs going to Room 21. I’ve has a hip replacement and I’m currently waiting for the other knee to be done.
Very central
Noise from the market
Staff friendly, parking available
Very noisy 🙄, wondered why earplugs were supplied.
We have stayed many times here and always love it
Nothing
The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.
The food was excellent.
The location is great for getting around the lovely countryside in North Yorkshire
Only the pillows, too thin and uncomfortable.
Ideal location, yes its old and some areas need attention but for us it was very charming as we like old and original. Bar was excellent, staff really friendly, breakfast was huge. Beds really comfy our room looked over the main street had no problem with noise through the night also market day following morning minimal noise from traders setting up. Will definitely stay again on our next visit.
