Casal dos Capelinhos - Douro

Beautiful property with an excellent location. Staff worked hard and it felt like a 5 star hotel. Food (especially the dinner) was incredible and we highly recommend.

I stayed here just over a week ago. It’s really fabulous. Nestled right in the middle of one of its many vineyards in the beautiful steep Douro valley hills and built amongst old and new farm buildings. The old grape processing building is now the shop and wine tasting area. The bedrooms are super modern and beautifully decorated. They look out onto the rows of vines just outside. I went to a group wine and port tasting run by one of the family João which I fully recommend. We bumped into Pedro the chief winemaker. He told us a lot about the general challenges of growing wine in the Douro region and this year’s heatwave. The history of wine growing goes back many centuries here and is fascinating.
In the evening there is a very attractive small restaurant in a refurbished old farm building to eat in with a set 4 course menu and a good choice of food options. The food was excellent and presented and served by a cheerful and friendly team. You can obviously choose one or more of Casal dos Capelinhos’s wines to go with your meal which makes it very special.
There is a wonderful infinity pool too, which is great for an early morning swim before breakfast. (Or anytime - I went several times!) Just the sounds of birds and the wind rustling the vines, which are literally right next to the pool - so peaceful. Breakfast itself is excellent with a wide choice of cheeses, meats and all the usuals. Online administration by Andreia, with very quick and helpful responses to my questions when booking. It’s clearly a well run established family business with a cheerful team
I highly recommend staying here and I will definitely stay again if I get the chance!

Os funcionários formam muito amáveis e atenciosos; quanto aos proprietários, podemos considerar são a cereja no topo do bolo, simplesmente sensacionais. Como estávamos com crianças, montaram um programa de passeios maravilhosos no rio Douro com mergulho no rio, passeio ao parque aquático de Vila Real.

The people, the setting, the food! It’s all incredible!
We did the wine tasting and had dinner there one night and loved it. The staff really looked after us and I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone. The sheets were also so beautifully soft!
The pool was just glorious too - perfect for catching some sun and reading a book a little tipsy after some wine and lunch

Es ist einfach eine wunderschöne Unterkunft mit dem nettesten und herzlichsten Personal. Das Zimmer war groß, ruhig und das Bett sehr bequem. Das Bad hatte einen Top Standard.

The staff here were outstanding. Very helpful, chatty and informative. Piedro the owner hosted a fabulous wine tasting of his estate wines where we learned so much! We were also given an audio tour of the vineyard putting many things in perspective. The food here was exceptional: both breakfast and dinner! Wonderful local produce all home made to an extremely high standard. The pool, decor, attention to detail and tranquillity were amazing.

Everything. This place is magical. The property is stunning and the staff is so wonderful. They make each guest feel so welcomed. It truly feels like a romantic chalet surrounded by flowers and nature. The owner, Pedro, is involved in the day to day and the whole team creates such an intimate setting. The food is amazing! Highly recommend having dinner! Would definitely go back!
